Tuesday, April 24, 2012 6:08:01 PM @imnakdjumpme In fact, here is a quote from a descendant of a black confederate soldier who took place in a march to remember the black confederates who fought in the battle: "I am marching for freedom. The battle flag stands for freedom and states' rights. The U.S. flag is the flag of slavery. It flew over 100 years of slavery, and Native Americans were annihilated under that flag."

Tuesday, April 24, 2012 5:48:36 PM "continue to use the symbol to promote racist ideas" I live very deep in the south, and I have yet to see this. I know it does happen every now and then, but most people don't do this, and I have never experienced it. I HAVE seen southern black individuals wear clothing with the confederate flag though, but I guess they're using it to promote racism, eh? |

Tuesday, April 24, 2012 9:05:11 AM Eddy, a core component of the confederate states for their entire existance was the promotion of slavery and inequality. Then they were defeated in a war and some continue to use the symbol to promote racist ideas, so how can you expect people not to think of racism when its still being used today for such ideas? When we see someone waving the nazi flag do you just naturally assume its to highlight their history of humanitarianism? |

Monday, April 23, 2012 3:21:08 PM There are some f'in bigoted idiots in the world. One of them painted this garbage. Zimmerman has Hispanic and probably Jewish (given his name) ancestry. He shot a thug who attacked him, not a small child. |

Monday, April 23, 2012 3:18:54 PM @enolamron No, the artist is being racist. There is no evidence to support that Zimmerman is a racist, in fact, there is just the opposite. The artist is furthering racial division because he knows it will make his 'work' more popular. Pulling the race card in a situation where race is an actual factor is one thing, but making accusations of racism based on speculation, and going one step further and taking action on these accusations, only increases racial tension, and is therefore racist in and of itself. |

Monday, April 23, 2012 2:58:32 PM Well, @cityncolour, a lot of people thing the situation itself was racist, so it may very well be. Offensive, though, I don't think it is, because it's representing something that actually happened...so it's not the ARTIST, being racist...it's the artist suggesting that GZimmerman is |

Monday, April 23, 2012 2:13:58 PM "institutionalized racism was a prominent part of both groups and is rightfully associated with both groups. " Institutionalized racism existed and still exists outside of the confederate states as well. Should the American flag be considered racist as well? The symbolism behind the confederate flag has nothing to do with racism. |

Monday, April 23, 2012 12:16:30 PM Zimmerman is part Hispanic so you'd never see him in the Klan. He's not a cop, he was a neighborhood watch captain or whatever the hell they call it. Sh*t like this is exactly why the whole thing is blown way out of proportion. That "artist" is just looking for attention and using this as a way to get famous. |

Monday, April 23, 2012 8:45:42 AM the confederate flag is associated with racist acts, just like the nazi flag is. Why shouldnt it be? institutionalized racism was a prominent part of both groups and is rightfully associated with both groups. |

Monday, April 23, 2012 7:55:01 AM Um, this has so much fail, I don't know where to begin. A cop didn't shoot him. He wasn't a little kid. Zimmerman is not KKK. Zimmerman is not white. I guess facts don't matter for squat in the court of public opinion. |

Monday, April 23, 2012 7:42:21 AM Why is this a black/white thing? Zimmerman isn't even white. It very well may be a racial thing, I don't know, but I am tired of seeing all this depicted as a white/black issue. |

Monday, April 23, 2012 6:08:46 AM "Why must people continue to try to associate the confederate flag with racism? " really, you need an explanation for that? You live in the Southern U.S.? Sure you do, sure you do. |
