in my motorcycle class we were always told to approach stray/not leashed dogs slowly, and if they look like they're going to chase you, slow down as you get close, almost to a stop, then drive away quickly (not breaking the law). this is actually a common problem.

No. If a dog chases you, it likely isn't vicious, and is only trying to intimidate you. If you stand your ground and stare at it calmly, they will stop short and run off.
If you have food, you could even become the Dog's friend after you show that you give no poos. |
