Saturday, April 07, 2012 12:48:15 PM I play on a Peavey JSX. Marshalls are great amps, but definitely not my favorite. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 1:20:40 PM So much stupid in some of these comments. But I bet they know who gaga is. Or singing ponies, or whatever the hell passes for artists these days. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 12:42:22 PM TKD Master, Dude, believe it or not really interesting and important stuff happened before you were born. You can believe that all the bands you listen to know who this guy was and what they owe him. Take a little time to educate yourself. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 12:24:05 PM I never really cared for Marshall amps, (I'm a Fender man) but holy cow what an impact his amps and their sound have made on music. There's no mistaking that Marshall "crunch". Definitely one of the pioneers and innovators in music. If you're unfamiliar with him or any of the other three mentioned in the article, I suggest spending five minutes searching and reading about them. (notice I didn't insult you for not knowing about them) They all helped shape the face of rock and roll, whether you realize it or not. A sad day for guitarists everywhere. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 11:56:11 AM Seriously? You people SERIOUSLY have NO IDEA who he is, or what he did to the music industry as a whole? That's... Pretty damn depressing. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 11:44:57 AM Back in the mid 60's Fender amps were all the rage in England but were very expensive. Marshall was drummer who ran a music store and did stock Fender amps. Thinking they could do it cheaper, Marshall enlisted his shop tech a others to tackle the challenge. It was agreed that the Fender Bassman amp was really good so they used that as a template. But due to differences in key components and few circuit tweaks the Marshall amp had a more aggressive sound. Thus a new amp was born. As the years went by the amps got more powerful and speaker cabinets grew in size in order to accommodate the extra wattage. Thus the "stack" was born. Eight 12" speakers were needed to handle the furry that Marshall's most powerful amplifier could deliver. Pete Townshend of The Who was the first to take delivery of the massive cabinet. But after complaints about the cabinet's weight from his roadies the whole mess was cut in two so the 4x12" cabinet was born. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 10:53:29 AM You may have never heard of him, but pretty much non of the music of the last 50 or so years would have sounded like it has done without him. |
