Sunday, April 08, 2012 6:50:34 AM tuapui-"i don't understand how this has anything to do with the cyclist being right or wrong." It doesn't (besides the bit of the accident being a direct result of him being on a busy highway). He had every legal right to be there. But that still does not make is smart or safe. I don't care if it's legal for me to ride my bike on the bridge or not, if I was faced with that, I'd climb down off my bike and walk it accross on the sidewalk. Because it's SAFER. 50lb bike vs. 5,000 lb vehicle isn't a 'fair' match. If I'm in a casket, it doesn't matter if my mourners are standing over me saying, 'we'll, at least he was legal'. I once lived next to a major highway known for decades as 'Bloody 98'. No amount legality would get me on it in a bike. tuapui-" the guy tried to drive away man." Which was wrong, and he was charged with two violations (funny enough, one went into effect the day of the incident). Hopefully he will |

Sunday, April 08, 2012 5:27:43 AM who gives a poo about the cyclist? Perhaps you never dealt with a cyclist on the road before. Their very presence is annoying and just dangerous and stupid in rush hour traffic. |

Sunday, April 08, 2012 5:20:44 AM If people can't yield to riders they need to stay off of the road. This just in: motorists can't use the roads anymore!

Sunday, April 08, 2012 5:15:53 AM I also find it interesting how bicyclists don't need driver's licenses to operate their "vehicles" on the road when everyone else does. I agree with MeGrendel et al, if you can't go the speed limit (or at least the average speed of traffic) then get off the road and cycle on the sidewalk. |

Saturday, April 07, 2012 8:03:22 PM jtrebowski-"Because he was breaking the law. He was tailgating." We're not talking legal or lawful. We're talking 'SMART' and 'SAFE'. If you'll look at the video, you'll notice over a dozen tailgaters. It's called 'rush hour'. This cyclist was almost hit MULTIPLE times. It does not matter how 'legal' it is, it IS NOT safe to act as that cyclist did. It's legal to wear a KKK hood at a Black Panther meeting, too. I wouldn't advise it. jtrebowski-"I hope neither of you have a fuggin' car " Big-assed Dodge Ram, Jeep Wrangler & GMC. Deal with it. jtrebowski-"because you're both ignorant" It doesn't matter if the cyclist is 'right', I'd rather walk my bike across the sidewalk than face the VERY REAL possibility of ending up in the hospital. But, as I said, he's a 'cyclist', thus special and immune to such realities. (we call that 'stupid') |

Saturday, April 07, 2012 11:25:07 AM Auburnjunky: "but big ups to him hitting that douchenugget." Too bad it wasn't your Mom he hit. MeGrendel: "He can't stop in time" Because he was breaking the law. He was tailgating. I hope neither of you have a fuggin' car because you're both ignorant. |

Saturday, April 07, 2012 8:33:54 AM Scuzoid-"I fail to see how people are blaming the cyclist. " LightShaded-"He was well within his rights." Just because it's 'legal' does not make it 'smart'. As you can see in the video several times: Cars follow each other closely, because a vehicle going 40 takes time to stop, and the person following counts on that reaction time. One car following another, the first car swerves to avoid the cyclist, the second car, who's view of the cyclist was obscured by the first car, is suddenly faced with an object in his lane that is basically motionless. He can't stop in time. I've also seen this happen when a woman stupidly stopper her Cadillac in the middle lane of an interstate. Car behind her swerves, 2nd car is faced with a stopped car he had no idea was there. BAM, people killed due to woman's stupidity. The SMART, SAFE thing to do would be to WALK the bike accross the sidewalk. But he's a 'cyclist', and is special. |

Saturday, April 07, 2012 6:27:41 AM "If you want to ride a bike on a highway, you must buy a tag." Agreed MeGrendel. Automobile drivers pay for the roads through fuel taxes and tag fees. They pay nothing, but clog up our commutes like hipster douchebags. |

Saturday, April 07, 2012 6:25:50 AM "There was a path at the side of that busy road, why didn't he ride on there?" Because he would have gotten a ticket probably. You're not supposed to ride bicycles on sidewalks, or pedestrian paths. That being said, the motorist was a douche, but big ups to him hitting that douchenugget. If you're gonna ride your little bike on my road that I pay taxes on, get as far over to the left as you can, or ride where there is a bike path, ONLY. |

Saturday, April 07, 2012 3:47:47 AM As a motorist I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate motorists but no matter what my mode of transportation is, I always hate cyclists. That being said, what a a**wipe. Glad the other people boxed him in. Also pleased to see that the cyclist wasn't badly injured (I'm assuming, as he was able to get up and flag down a police car by the looks of it). |

Friday, April 06, 2012 8:26:28 PM I don't mind cyclists, but the fact is, most of them don't obey the laws of the road. They are in their own little world, dart out in front of cars, run red lights and stop signs, wear dark clothing while riding down the wrong way on the street, AND find the busiest street to joyride on. I respect the smart cyclists that know how to ride responsibly. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 7:30:28 PM "The driver was totally a jerk for trying to get away, but why was this biker jagoff riding down the middle of the road in the first place?" EXACTLY. I'm sorry, but if you're only capable of doing 20mph down the road, then GET OFF THE ROAD. I hate cyclists that just meander along the road enjoying their workout while the rest of the world is going to work. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 4:55:34 PM That wasn't a highway. It was a bridge. It said as much at the very start of the video. Furthermore, the streets leading to the bridge may have very well had designated bike lanes, but didn't support a bike lane on the bridge because, well, the bridge wasn't built with that much foresight. I fail to see how people are blaming the cyclist. Stop doing your makeup and texting while driving, and it turns out, it's really not that hard to avoid slow moving obstacles. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 3:56:27 PM Cyclists have the same right to the road as motor vehicles (except limited access highways). That also means they need to follow the same rules- stop lights, stop signs, signaling, etc. That being said, this guy is an idiot for riding down a road like that. I know he did nothing wrong, but that's asking for it. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 3:03:38 PM cool. next time i see a biker on the road i might as well shoot him, or a pedestrian not passing accross a zebra-crossing, or a car driver not using turning lights, or a car driver exceeding the speed limit. get over yourself. that driver had A WHOLE lane to drive and overtake the biker. |
