Saturday, April 07, 2012 1:32:00 AM @botfly They aren't actually using the food stamp cards during the promotion. They are just showing the cards to qualify for the offer. What you can actually buy with the cards is fairly limited. I think it's reasonable to assume that alcohol isn't on the list. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 1:30:26 PM vegascartman-" Now it's a source of pride. Thanks Obama." As much as I dislike Obama's policies, this attitude has been on the rise for decades before Obama was elected. But I will say he is fostering the 'Momma Guv'mint' movement. But, I've always had an idea that would improve the Food Stamp situation: Back in the 70's many grocery stores had an aisle of two set aside for 'generic products'. All had simple white labels: 'Beans', 'Chili' (the chili was very good, btw). Why not do the same, but set aside several isles of 'Food Stamp products'? If it's not in that section, you can't buy it with food stamps. Not a complete solution, but would definitely save tax dollars. And anyone found abusing food stamps, they are forbidden from getting benefits from time periods ranging from months to ever. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 9:45:16 AM Just because a vocal (hopefully minority) group of people are non-nice individuals doesn't mean the rest are. Here that means both the black american community at large and the group of Americans who need food stamps. On an aside, is this exchanging food stamps for drinks, or a discount at the bar for people who get food stamps? I can't tell. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 3:19:44 AM Everyone that participates in this misuse of our taxes should be deemed guilty of perpetrating a fraud and fined $500 each. The promoters should be fined the same for each instance of said offense. Low life a$$holes like this should not be rewarded. |

Friday, April 06, 2012 3:14:34 AM @Agent0024blo Do you realize that there are people in the United States that are working two jobs and still can't make enough to stay above the poverty-line? And you will deny those people beer or cigarettes because YOU say those things are to luxurious for them? But you are right. When someone abuses a system be it food-stamps, housing-market or international treaties, they should be subject of a great scrutiny and have to account for everything they do. I hope you lived a nice life over there because there is the rest of the world who would like to speak to your country about it's behavior and abuse of some systems. Welcome to 1940's Europe. |

Thursday, April 05, 2012 10:09:39 PM Just so people know. WIC and Food Stamps are different. Anyone, of any economic level can get WIC. Some don't NEED it, so they don't ask, but it's available to all. Food stamps on the other hand, I'd say, ehhhhh, 30% of the people who get them actually NEED them. The other 70% just want free poo. Those %s are out of my ass BTW. |

Thursday, April 05, 2012 9:48:47 PM I don't know if anyone has said this earlier (tl;dr), but I totally would vote yes for the monitoring of people on welfare. EVERY DIME they spend, food stamp card or not, must be accounted for. And anytime it says "beer" or "cigarettes", proper steps should be followed. If you need help from the government, you need to give up your luxuries until you can rise above needing assistance. To me WIC is different. Infants are important and they need all the help they can get. If there are WIC abusers, then so be it. Don't let those bad apples ruin it for the truly good mothers and their children. With that said, cut off for all assistance and tax breaks is 3 children. Can't keep your legs shut after that? drat you. (no pun intended) |

Thursday, April 05, 2012 8:29:08 PM @Perfection I agree with you, but the problem is things like the above. My mother raised me without the benefit of a high paying job. While we were fortunate enough to not need food stamps or WIC, we still didn't have money to waste. The picture above encourages people who "need" that sustenance to blow their money on alcohol at a club instead of taking better care of their child. I believe that your ratio of people who abuse it as opposed to those who do not is not true. I, along with many others, believe there are a slew of people who DON'T need it but continue to take their free hand out. My ex's grandmother worked for Social Security and was amazed at the number of people who showed up for welfare reasons and left in their Mercedes. While I don't have a problem with keeping the program, it needs a massive overhaul. |

Thursday, April 05, 2012 5:04:52 PM I been there! I usually go on Masterbation Wednesdays though. You still get a free shot at the door on arrival, but you also get a kleenex. |

Thursday, April 05, 2012 4:55:31 PM I'm currently on food stamps because I make $4 an hour working for AmeriCorps and am not allowed to have another job. Here's what I know. All of you demonizing people on food stamps most likely have never needed to be on them, and don't know what you're talking about. As with any system there will be those who abuse it, and those are the people who get talked about. For every person who abuses the system, there are twice as many who get legitimate help from it. The program does have many faults, but it isn't broken and it shouldn't be discarded. It's purpose is to help those who need it so they can rise up from their current socio-economic standing. I knew people in college who grew up on food stamps and wouldn't have even made it that far without them. That's all I have to say about that. |

Thursday, April 05, 2012 4:09:44 PM There was once a time where being on food stamps created a stigma. It was designed to help people get a leg up and at the same time reinforce the need to get OFF of them. No more. Now it's a source of pride. Thanks Obama. |
