As others have said this is on a megaramp. Tony hawk at that age on a legit half pipe gets more cred then this kid doing a 1080 at 14. Not saying he doesn't deserve it because its still crazy! but tony hawks> then this kid. |

@drawman61, have you seen Tony Hawk's house? Matt Hoffman's? These guys are freaking loaded. Though this video wasn't all that impressive, I wouldn't be surprised if this kid goes pro and makes bank. |

@auburnjunky: Nope, he had multiple attempts. The other competitors stopped taking runs to give Tony more time to land it.
@OldOllie: Yes. Watch snowboarding.
And yes, as has been said a mega ramp is not a half pipe. Also, your backyard is not the X-Games. And iirc, there are guys in the X-Games that can do 1080's on mega ramps. I may be mistaken on that last point. |

No. Hawk did it for the first time at the X Games, and he did it first try.
Of course he practiced it, before the competition. He probably landed it too.
In the world of skateboarding, you are not credited with inventing a trick unless you do it in a competition, or on an officially sponsored video. |

I agree this is impressive but not comparable. All sports progress, but that doesn't mean past feats are less great than new ones. |

@bluevayero until I see him pull off a 1080 under the same constraints as Tony Hawk it is not a valid comparison.
Tony had a time constraint on a vert ramp, although his landing was questionable...

msieg007 - oh, whoops, the tony hawk age thing was something I saw on google's extract of wikipedia, which wasn't the first time he did it, but he was quoted as saying "I'm 42 and I did a 900 today.", not clicking the wiki link to check, I took it to mean he was that old when he first did it. As for the kids age, I didn't check, just took someones post on youtube as his age.
wibble4321 - Tony Hawk took like 8 tries in the competition. That's repeated practise, competition or not. |

Sure he nailed a 1080. But when Hawk did it HDMI was in its infancy--480p was the biggest thing out there. Harumph. |
