Tuesday, April 03, 2012 6:36:49 AM An explosion in a print factory would not produce a dictionary. That's true. Nor would a hurricane in a scrap-yard produce a 747, a commoner analogy. But evolution works through random mutation and natural selection. Either this guy does not know this and he is, at best, ignorant or he does know it and is being dishonest. We have established that he has a sound career in medicine, so dishonest is looking likely. |

Monday, April 02, 2012 9:42:24 PM lauriloo I agree with you completely, but I think I was misunderstood. It's obvious from these comments that people hear this speaker and quickly dismiss him as an idiot. Clearly, a cardio-thoracic surgeon as decorated as him is not an idiot. I didn't mean to imply that the sciences are interchangeable, only that he is not ignorant of them. |

Monday, April 02, 2012 11:27:00 AM The printing reference is a terrible analogy since all the very early universe had was simple elements. |

Monday, April 02, 2012 11:13:32 AM As a guy who works in a printers i'm accustomed to causing massive explosions, and granted no dictionaries have come about from this. But having said that I haven't worked in the printers for 14 billion years I'm not going to dismiss the chances of me creating a walking, talking, thinking dictionary if I had the time.x |

Monday, April 02, 2012 11:04:28 AM I don't know, with things like cancer and auto-immune diseases, it seems to me that if an all-powerful divine being designed the human body, he really didn't give it his all. But then, it was his last day before his vacation. |

Monday, April 02, 2012 10:59:01 AM did he rule out the big bang? he said it would be highly unlikely for that to happen. still leaving a small margin of possibility. What he was talking about was the random healing of damaged things. |

Monday, April 02, 2012 10:17:58 AM "Don't be so quick to dismiss this man as an idiot. He is a cardio-thoracic surgeon who helped develop the first heart-lung device and performed it's first successful usage in Utah. He is definitely not ignorant of the sciences." would you let an astronomer or a physicist operate on you? The sciences aren't interchangeable and a doctor doesn't necessarily know more than a plumber on this subject. |

Monday, April 02, 2012 10:15:01 AM "The fact that so many people have a conscience and the desire to do or be "good" is reason enough to consider the idea that there is more to our world than what we can prove.' All of those realizations are simply a higher level of survival instincts. Animal families protect each other so are they religious or do they recognize that it's to their own best interest to protect their numbers? |

Monday, April 02, 2012 10:09:58 AM an explosion in a print shop could produce a book if, over millions and millions of years, the groups of letters that don't form words are thrown away (die out). The main thing creationists can't understand is the power of millions and millions of years. All their arguments are only valid if there is too little time for something complicated to happen. |

Monday, April 02, 2012 9:57:22 AM I'd say everyone's body has come from a "big bang." If you get my drift. |

Monday, April 02, 2012 8:23:51 AM "He said nothing wrong here for the audience he was talking to, why is this posted?" Same reason every other stupid person being stupid is posted here. Because he is using stupid logic, in glorious high-fi. It's time people preaching stipidity to the stupid be ridiculed openly. If society is ever to move forward instead of constantly backwards from the laws these kinds of people force down our throats. |

Monday, April 02, 2012 8:17:02 AM Why is it that these preaching fools assume that immediately after an explosion there are fully formed people walking around a planet with habitable atmosphere? Hint: they don't think the Earth is billions of years old. |

Monday, April 02, 2012 7:52:10 AM I'm not sure what the problem is here. He was not trying to convert you to his way of thinking, he is preaching to other Mormons on what they believe. You don't have to agree with everything and other people don't have to agree with you. He said nothing wrong here for the audience he was talking to, why is this posted? |

Monday, April 02, 2012 7:43:38 AM This doesn't bother me, it is sad, but what he says in church is his business. What does bother me is that EVERY Republican presidential candidate says they do not believe in evolution. If you cannot accept 100 years of science as fact, and if you do not have the balls to tell your conservative base they are wrong on an issue, how can we expect you to make good decisions as our president. |
