It was funny watching people try to dance to it, treat it like any other accessible poppy beat. When you're new on the scene you have to expose yourself to every possible venue. They weren't selling-out, just taking the opportunity to do the above and holding up their end of the bargain in the process. If it doesn't work out, you move on to a more appropriate venue and don't make an ass of yourself along the way. This is what separated the NIN phenomenon from a lot of other acts during their 1988-2001 heyday.
