The most commonly cited theory about kissing goes to an observation by ethologist Irenäus Eibl-Eibesfeldt, who noticed that in certain human cultures, mothers will chew food up, then kiss the baby, transferring the food into its mouth. This motherly kiss could have carried over to adult relations, producing the other forms of kissing.

Premastication / kiss-feeding or kissing has between mother and infant has been observed in all human cultures, with kissing believed to be a socially ritualized form of feeding premasticated food.

Oh geez people. Try reading a book. Specifically "Love and hate: the natural history of behavior patterns" which proposes that "Kissing in humans is postulated to have evolved from the direct mouth-to-mouth regurgitation of food". |

That thing was inside of her for 9 months, eating the food she fully digested via umbilical cord, then breasts. How is this any more gross than that?
Um...because it's unnecessary to do, and the mouth is a cesspool. Why chew it? She's prohibiting the initial digestion in the mouth by removing the vitamins and minerals from the food and trying to get most of it in his mouth. Why not grind the food with a little water in a bowl and feed it to him with a spoon? I'll tell you why: because she's a nutjob who wants the experience. If she wants to do it with her kid, go ahead. Just as long as she's not claiming any benefit to it. If you want to act like you live in the woods go for it, but that doesn't mean you have to chew it for him. |

There are over 100 million different types of bacteria for every milliliter of saliva and they come from over 600 different species. Don't believe me, look it up. I'm never kissing my husband again...jk... Gimme some germs hubby!

Although (true story) I just had a memory when my teeth were so drated up I couldn't bite an apple as a kid because there were like gaps between my teeth because of how they fell out and left my gums exposed, and my dad, seeing this, bit off huge chunks of the apple ad then handed them to me. I remember it because I felt loved.
So, perhaps we shouldn't judge (or publish) the intimate moments between parent and child. |

@rachaldenise, no, absolutely no, whoever told you that is one hundred percent full of poo.
Kissing was developed as a means of acclimating to the germs of the male partner to avoid miscarriages, which is why you tongue your partner and not your baby. No human has ever had to do this since they have mammaries, hence the term mammal. Birds have to do this (and a little more) since they have no other way of nourishing their young (with the exception of pigeons), and their offspring can't fend for themselves at a young age. |
