I'm going to get on my soapbox here...
At around the 5:05 mark, [Chris] Anderson says "Quantum theory adds a whole new wrinkle ... I mean, the theory's been proven beyond all doubt."
Theories can't be proven true! I'm disappointed that an intellectual such as Anderson makes such a statement. I know it's a seemingly small thing he says for convenience - and his audience's sake - but it perpetuates the notion that empirical falsification should be absconded in favor of 'proof'. All that does is make the scientist's job harder and, in our world, more politicized. Ugh.

I would assume aliens would ignore us because we're so primative, like how we ignore Africa. Or, they want us to develop our own ideas in case we think of something they never thought of. Or maybe we're the most advanced species, and we will be the ones to discover others. |

Quackor...how do you know there's no afterlife? Modern science is actually starting to disprove that with quantum theory, and given the knowledge that our conscious brain is not just a chemical process caused by a biological machine, but a quantum process that exceeds our reckoning. And it's possible that these quantum particles that form "thought" (as we understand it) supersede death, and our consciousness continues into eternity. Perhaps not in a state that we quite understand.
Perhaps our bodies are fish, and our consciousness is the water the fish swim around in, and the universe is the bowl that contains the water. When the fish dies, the water still exists. |

Wow...you people are unbelievable. You bash religion, but when a truly big and interesting idea comes along, you just shut down and quote Simpsons. Such hope for humanity.
I understood him, in fact, I'd love to sit down and have a beer with this guy.
Is it possible that the universe is our own conscious thought? That voice inside your head that does all the thinking...who's listening to it? And once you've figured that out, who's observing that observer? Is it possible that the universe observes us just as we observe it? |

His voice sends shivers down my spine for some reason and he's somewhat insightful, so there's two reasons to listen.
I seriously doubt that a super advanced alien civilization will be nearly as violent as the video or any of our movies suggest. IMO *all* movies involving aliens (at least all the one's I've seen) suck for one reason or another, and this video partially explains why. Partially.
