Ah, there's your fallacy. You seem to believe that the ONLY way you can get Health CARE is to have health INSURANCE.

No I don't. Like I said, your ERs are like a GPs office, so I guess you don't need insurance after all.

Ah, there's your fallacy. You seem to believe that the ONLY way you can get Health CARE is to have health INSURANCE.

Hint: The two are not synonymous. Nor does one require the other. You can receive Health CARE without having Health INSURANCE. And you can carry Health INSURANCE and not require health CARE.

It's considered a 'Personal responsibility' type thing.

Let's recap -- Romney is an elitist, dog-hating @zzh0l3. Santorum is a religious fanatic determined to turn the USA into a fundy theocracy. Newt Gingrich is eleven thousand years old. Man, who WOULDN'T vote Republican????

Ahh, so now I'm supposed to 'discover the intent'. I'm sorry, but you'll have to deal with your own inabilitiy to debate. I'll stick to debating what you say. You have to find a better way to express what you mean.

Well since you can't see past a typo, and a rather simple one at that, and as you seem to prefer I'll hold your hand like a small child and walk you through it:
To...me... it...described(too many syllables?)... where...you...live...because ...you...live...there.

I don't suggest all aspects of universal health care are better, but at least everyone has the reassurance that they if they've lost a job etc. that they can still get healthcare. And like I said, your country treats the ER like a GP's office, so how much do you think that costs?

patchgrabber-"Not wanting to help those in need/dying/sick because you want to keep more money=selfish&greedy"

That is only if you take for granted (incorrectly) that socialized medicine is an IMPROVEMENT over what we have now. I don't (just as many do not).

Universal Healthcare =/= better healthcare. In many cases it will result in reduced healthcare, and the way the US Government runs things, it will cost more, be less effective and eventually lead to rationing.

@Ollie: Y U mad? I don't doubt conservatives give loads of money to charity. Gotta love those tax breaks, eh? I wonder how much would get donated without them...

P.J. O'Rourke said it best: "A Liberal is someone who'd gladly give you the shirt off of someone else's back."

That insinuates that I don't want to give anything of my own, which is just ridiculous. As I've mentioned before, I give plenty in addition to the happily given tax money that helps fund our health care. I'm sure the child in Uganda I sponsor is happy for the shirt on his back, and I didn't ask anyone else for it. I get a pittance back in tax breaks, but I don't mind giving anyway.

Simmer down, you'll give yourself a myocardial infarction.

@patchgrabber Seems to me like most of your right-wing people are the ones who don't give a drat about anyone but themselves, it must be nice to have no social conscience.

PG, you're so full of liberal $#!+, I can smell it through my monitor. The fact is, conservatives give much more to charity than liberals at every income level, and at the highest income levels, the difference is HUGE. (Google it yourself if you don't believe it.)

Nope, just an amusing story I came accross today

Translation: red herring. You seem to enjoy prodding me or mentioning personal slights. I must have really hit the nail on the head with the whole selfish, narcissistic accusations.

You seem to be confused. You were describing a PLACE, not a PERSON.

So I did, you are technically correct...the best kind of correct. However, since you didn't seem to be able to discover the intent of the comment, I can only assume you are on large amounts of prescription drugs or somewhat of a dullard. It's nothing to be ashamed about. ;)

a person being against socialized medicine does not equate to him/her being selfish, greedy or heartless.

Granted the first two qualities are phrased in the form of a meaningless tautology, but let's analyze:
Not wanting to help those in need/dying/sick because you want to keep more money=selfish&greedy
heartless=see a

an insurance company or a hospital is NOT A CHURCH.

Oh man! I missed out on @jamie76 making an arse of himself! Too busy playing Stars! and arguing about Zimmerman.

tell me why should a church get to decide what is or is not covered in my health insurance that is provided by a SPERATE COMPANY?

Um, "seperation of church and state"? That's one.
Show me where a Government can order a Church to pay for abortions, that's two...

patchgrabber-"Is this link supposed to be some red herring/ad hominem hybrid?"

Nope, just an amusing story I came accross today (it was, after all, posted today) and as it was Canadian, thought you might find it interesting. (although, it could be taken in context as a statment of the masculinity of your women, and lack of it in your men, we have the same issues here)

patchgrabber-"Well seeing as how you seem to be the person I was describing,"

You seem to be confused. You were describing a PLACE, not a PERSON. (quote: "what would you call a PLACE" [emphasis mine]).

Well, just another instance when you're incorrect, confused and/or basing a stupid opinion on bad or inaccurate information.

Hint: a person being against socialized medicine does not equate to him/her being selfish, greedy or heartless.

In other Canadian News: "Jenna Talackova Removed from Miss Universe Canada for Being Born Male"

Is this link supposed to be some red herring/ad hominem hybrid? News flash: transvestites aren't allowed in Miss America either, know why? Same reason for this story, they don't consider them women.

(It bears no resemblance to my neck of the woods)

Well seeing as how you seem to be the person I was describing, it definitely resembles your neck of the woods.

patchgrabber-" but this also seems to be the only downside you can think of"

Just the simplest to cite, there are others. (others: limited cancer treatment types, limited care options, fewer doctors, less available equipment)

patchgrabber-" I find it all horribly biased and more inflammatory just to attract viewers. "

With that I agree.

patchgrabber-"what would you call a place where people only seem to care about themselves, and as long as they have theirs, then screw everyone else, huh?"

or maybe a bad case of getting your news from MSNBC

I don't watch any American news. I find it all horribly biased and more inflammatory just to attract viewers.

'Social conscience': The point where you care so much that you're willing to donate other people's money to solve 'the problem'

Actually, I'm willing to donate MY money, but nice spin you put on it there.
Ahh, liberal buzzword time.. 'social concience'. Sounds great, fails in implementation.

I forgot that it was only liberals who use 'buzzwords'. Irrelevant in any case, but what would you call a place where people only seem to care about themselves, and as long as they have theirs, then screw everyone else, huh?

Old, and yet, valid.

Wait times are longer, but this also seems to be the only downside you can think of. I guess it's just better to let people without insurance use your ERs as a doctor's office then? I'm sure that has no cost to the average American, hmm?

'Social conscience': The point where you care so much that you're willing to donate other people's money to solve 'the problem' (of course, the problem is only exacerbated, and more of other people's money must be thrown at it).

I have no recollection of that going on here. I'll have to ask my wife. She's had her finger plugged in a few gunshot wounds before. (ah, now I remember...it's AGAINST THE LAW to deny anyone emergency medical care in the US).

It's not the government's place to tell me who to care about. People are free to be total recluses if they want. Or asswipes (we call that the "Democrat Party").

Seems to me like most of your right-wing people are the ones who don't give a drat about anyone but themselves, it must be nice to have no social conscience. Up here we call those people asswipes.
The fact that you have 'Universal, eventually, if you can wait and live long enough' healthare does not make you more 'enlightened' as a count

Having universal health care doesn't make me axiomatically more enlightened, but if you look at any country with universal health care they would not trade it for your brand for all the tea in China. I'd rather have compassion for others rather than contempt, which you seem so fond of. Every brand of health care has its problems, but at least we try to treat everyone we can.

Let's see. It's cold. Big-assed masquitos. More socialist than I like. And the majority of people I know personally know in Canada are idiots.

I've never heard my country described so succinctly and accurately before. Let me try: I've been to the US before. Too hot. People didn't even know where Montana was. Most people were fat and/or stupid.
Yeah, but I was able to see a specialist last week in about 4 hours. Wait time for Canada is over four weeks. I think I prefer mine.

Ah, yes, the old 'wait time' argument. Yes, wait times are longer, but I have no recollection of one of our hospitals turning away gunshot wounds or dropping sick people off on the street. You also seem ignorant of provinces with two-tier health care, like Alberta.

Keep telling yourself that.

Nice argument MeGrendel, I completely trust your opinion because you're coming at this with absolutely no knowledge of what it's like living in Canada. We have universal health care because we aren't selfish. We care about other people in our country, not just ourselves, you should try it sometime.

They may vote...

... but they still cannot drive.

I had to lol. As much as I'd like to say the majority of slow, over-apprehensive drivers are not women, sadly they are.

There are already a legal obligation against killing. What you'reaiming for is in line with passing a law that when you suffer from liver failure from too much driking, you want to force your neighbor to pay for your treatment. (Do you plan on forcing him to give up his liver, too?)

@BO, I have absolutely no idea how your rambling, incoherent post has anything to do with anything I said. I would try to explain it again, but if you couldn't get it the first time, it would be a complete waste of time.
