my only comment on this is: i've seen people out there use children to transport different types of contraband. when it comes to my safety, better believe i dont want to take any chances.

@patchgrabber

Okay you know I just realized Transport Canada is in fact a government organization, so yeah it goes back to what I said earlier about some companies having a cozy relationship with politicians in Ottowa.

The whole point of TSA is to let you know you are a slave or at best a subject. All the rest of their act can be called American Kabuki.

@Cajun: Well I believe it was Transport Canada that hired the security companies, and those were really all based on which company put in the lowest bid for the tender. The airlines had no say in the choosing, but they had some say in regards to rules of what was allowed on, within reason e.g. how many oxygen tanks are allowed.

The 'consumers' as you put it would have been the airlines, but they had 0% say in which company ran security, and they hated all of them anyway

...and how did they have no say?

@Pinkrhoid: Well admittedly I don't know all the powers of the TSA, but at least here in Canada screeners HAVE to ask before they do anything, and if you say "stop" at any time then they have to stop. However, just because you don't consent to a search doesn't mean they are obligated to still let you fly. Can't have it both ways.

Yeah, but the point is that there COULD be people using children to smuggle stuff. It happens all over the world, hell there's even been people using animals.

Ya, and you COULD be running a child sex slave, meth and bomb lab, while serial killing people. Not likely but you COULD be so we should let people come and search you and your belongings whenever you come to or from your home.
Sorry, but it's not right or legal to seize and search me or my property without a warrant or at the very least probable cause based on a real observation. Hypothetical suggestions don't cut it.

Lambert is under utilized...

As soon as I read 'Lambert' all I could think of was Splinter Cell.

Worse for you maybe (in the short term), but considering that as you said the rules changed on a daily basis I'd say it's because the consumers thought other security companies' measures were less intrusive thus the rules changed in response to what the consumer wanted.

Sorry but no. The 'consumers' as you put it would have been the airlines, but they had 0% say in which company ran security, and they hated all of them anyway. Also, the measures were not set by the security companies for the most part, it was a combination of Transport Canada and airlines, so I suppose your notion of the companies "running everything themselves" was not exactly going on in the context you meant.

Never in history has the US Federal Government have had a higher percentage of educated doctors and lawyers elected to office or appointed that when returned to private practice would find themselves bared to practice there trade in there own State.

kittehdee: After TWA went bankrupt, and closed it's hub in St. Louis, I've heard a lot more complaints from people that the Chicago and Dallas airports are overcrowded and flights delayed.

Lambert is under utilized and could be used as a major hub again, to relieve overcrowding and delays, but for some odd reason they seem to want to put their passengers through hell and keep ticket prices high.

Something to keep in mind. Yes this is rediculous and completely unnecessary and doesn't help but their logic isnt that the kid is a terrorist. Think about this for a second. If the TSA let kids in wheelchairs and old people with canes through without a check where would a smart enemy hide his weapons?

Like I said though ultimately it doesn't help at all because 9/11 IS OVER AND WE NEED TO MOVE ON!

Has the TSA ever published a report on how many bombs and armed terrorists they have actually detected with their frisking and scanners?

In the meant time, while swabbing this 4 year old's cast, a real threat slips by in a turban wearing a ceramic ball bearing explosive vest. Wouldn't want to check that guy, cuz that would be racist.

@Baelzar: "Security THEATER. Not actual security."

Couldn't have said it better myself.

This nonsense is an unnecessary invasion of privacy and a waste of time.
