Sunday, March 18, 2012 8:24:02 AM I wonder if you change weight the proportions would be wrong? Like a triangle drawn on the surface of a sphere would have angles that add up to more than 180 degrees. |

Sunday, March 18, 2012 2:36:18 AM The only reason I knew even where to start with this tatoo was because I've just read through Echo by Terry Moore^^ |

Saturday, March 17, 2012 7:08:15 PM @simbha: that's because you're APPLIED math :p For us PURE mathematicians, this is instantly recognizable. My first thought was that it's a little dull for a tattoo if the golden rectangle. Also, punk7643, that just goes to show how much art relies on math :) |

Saturday, March 17, 2012 7:04:04 PM would that be the golden ratio? C is to B as B is to A? So close, I'll give you partial credit. The Golden Ratio is a/b = b/(a+b) or in your words, A is to B as B is to A+B |

Saturday, March 17, 2012 4:57:48 PM I WAS going to say this applies more to art than to math even though it it mathematical.....The Golden Rectangle is a fairly common proportion in art work. Piet Mondrian is probably the most obvious use of it and modular grid systems. |

Saturday, March 17, 2012 4:45:00 PM Funny thing is - I have a math background (BS in applied math) and yet, what pops into my mind first is Piet Mondrian... not Golden Ratio. |
