I wonder if you change weight the proportions would be wrong? Like a triangle drawn on the surface of a sphere would have angles that add up to more than 180 degrees. |

@simbha: that's because you're APPLIED math :p For us PURE mathematicians, this is instantly recognizable. My first thought was that it's a little dull for a tattoo if the golden rectangle.

I WAS going to say this applies more to art than to math even though it it mathematical.....The Golden Rectangle is a fairly common proportion in art work. Piet Mondrian is probably the most obvious use of it and modular grid systems. |

Funny thing is - I have a math background (BS in applied math) and yet, what pops into my mind first is Piet Mondrian... not Golden Ratio. |
