Pretty sure that was meant in a metaphorical sense. Ie, they came along, owned the Irish, had their way with the woman and passed on their genes, one of which is red hair.
Roman descriptions of some tribes in northern Europe and Britain refer to red hair, so it was clearly widespread before the vikings existed.
I'm not aware of any Roman descriptions of Irish people (there wasn't much Roman influence in Ireland), but since red hair was noted in some British tribes (as well as some northern European tribes) it would not be surprising if it was not hugely rare in Ireland in Roman times, i.e. long before viking raids. |

go learn the truth about vikings. they weren't conquerors, they were peacable and joined into other cultures when they came in contact with them.
'viking' means 'raider' and there are numerous accounts of viking attacks. Some settlements were completely abandoned as a result of repeated Viking attacks. Some areas were outright conquered and occupied by vikings or given to them to stop further attacks, most notably the "land of the people from the north", Normandy.
So no, there weren't peaceful. They attacked many places for centuries, sometimes fielding sizable fleets and armies. They were mostly pirates and slavers, but they were sometimes conquerors.
There was peaceful migration by other Scandanavians and some vikings did stop raiding and settled afterwards, but vikings were not peaceful. Far from it. |

Most irish are jet black with darker skin. Most nordic people have red hair. Fun fact, red hair is historically a trait of the vikings, NOT the irish. The irish were basically butt raped by the vikings, thus the modern day 'red head irishman' is most likely more nordic than anything else. |
