@ Kalimata - her tragically dramatic life. Her dramatic Torch Songs. Not to mention those really great shoes in Wizard of Oz! It's kind of long to explain, but the short version is it was a differant era when drag queens and gays didn't have role models, so over-the-top poster children were adopted for the role. Gay community was drawn to dramatic people who didn't fit in quite right, and that describes Judy Garland... and Barbra Streisand... and Bette Midler .... and etc etc etc |

Monday, March 19, 2012 6:55:14 AM @Gerry1of1 I have heard many times that Judy Garland was a massive icon in the gay community, but I've never been able to find out why? Any reason in particular? |

@ Ilikelogic - The "Friends of Dorothy" is a code phrase we used before we could be so open or out in public. If you wanted to page all the gay men on a cruise ship you'd ask them to page the Friends of Dorothy to the Lido Deck {or wherever}. Same at hotels and conventions. Dorothy as in Wizard of Oz Dorothy as in Judy Garland the 1st great gay icon. |

Saturday, March 17, 2012 1:59:23 PM I still can't believe this is an issue anymore. Only in 'Merica where all the politicians are homophobic and cater to the older population because they are the only people that seem to vote anymore. I'm not a homosexual myself, I have a family with three children. Yet I still believe that everyone should be treated equal. I'm glad I live in Canada where I don't have to put up with an oppressive government like our neighbours to the south. |

Saturday, March 17, 2012 10:39:37 AM I love this man. We all know these lawmakers are repressed gays, but he said it with such class and indirect wit. Shine-on you crazy diamond. |

Saturday, March 17, 2012 9:07:46 AM like that. Well, for the white, non-gay men anyway. |

Saturday, March 17, 2012 9:07:21 AM So, let's see if I understand the score here: Gay marriage bills = inclusive. No one's rights are limited or affected. Anti-gay marriage bills = non-inclusive. By definition, someone is discriminated against. These three idiot proposals in TN? Same categories. Why can't supporters of these types of bills recognize that *their* rights aren't being trampled, their lives aren't being affected, that they aren't being hurt by granting equal rights to members of the LGBT community (or Muslims, blacks, women, etc.). But, by doing the opposite, by writing proposals to discriminate against LGBTs, they are not only discriminating, they are writing laws that actually *legislate* discrimination. Why can't they see how ironic and potentially dangerous that is? How would they like laws against marriage past child-rearing years? Laws that limit property ownership to white males over 18 years old? Those can be arranged. And apparently life is really great under regimes |
