Yea, he didn't do anything when they said it burned, but c'mon. Those kids are old enough to stop or at least drop it if it hurts bad enough. He can't force them to hold it til it burns holes through their hands. Even if he put them up to the challenge, there's bound to be a couple of dumb kids in the class that would challenge each other anyway.

I couldn't sit through the whole thing (home videos hurt my head), so I'm a little confused. Did the teacher put them up to this/force them, or just not give a poo as they started playing with it? |

My high school chemistry teacher let me chew a small piece... (Mind you, I'm not sure he was aware of this fact until I had already stuck it in my mouth.)
It was fucking cold... But I didn't end up with blisters or anything. Just one of those cold toothaches, like when you bite off too much ice cream.
The trick is to keep it moving. Let it set in one spot too long and it'll burn you.
If the teacher didn't tell them even that basic precaution before giving it to them, then he certainly is a moron and deserves to have the punishment laid on thick. That he didn't stop them after seeing their hands getting burnt, means that he deserves some jail time for child abuse or something. |

The kids were not dumb. Science class is where you learn about such things and if the teacher says it's only a temporary harmless pain sensation that will pass without real damage they will believe him.
He should be fired. |

@ Everyone saying the kids are idiots.
The reason that the kids carried on even though it hurt is that they know they SHOULD be able to trust a teacher's judgement. In high school I knew that everything we did in science was far beyond safe. Stuff like acid is diluted so much that it's practically harmless...
It is entirely the teacher's fault for letting them do this in the first place, and for acting as if it was completely safe.

i remember i was cashiering once and a guy bought a bag of dry ice for his freezer and i wasn't paying attention and grabbed the bag without the handle and it burned like hell... felt so dumb... now how dumb these kids must feel is inexplicable |

I've handled dry ice for a second or two with my bare hands and that doesn't damage the skin, but you do really need proper PPE. What I used to do for fun as an undergraduate was to put small pieces of dry ice in a 1.5 mL microcentrifuge tube, then toss it into another lab. After a minute or two they pop open violently. Dry ice grenades. |

i just asked my 17 year old daughter if she would've done it and she said yeah even after someone else was screaming that it hurts she still would've done it. i don't understand i guess it's the jackass effect. |

The only issue with it being all his fault is the students should've known better either in general or after the first student. Then it just became a stupid game. Granted he should be fired anyway, but the students did bring it upon themselves when they participated. |

I'm surprised the 12 yr olds didn't have more sense. My kids would know not to do that, (thanks to IAB's many videos of things getting smashed to smitherens frozen by dry ice) |

Ok.. The teacher told the students to hold it as part of a science experiment on the effects of dry ice. The students then decided to make a game of it and see who could hold it the longest. The teacher let them do this... the students didnt let go of it because the teacher told them that they are wusses if they let go after a short time. So the competition was pushed to keep goin. Yeah it was stupid but they all played there part. |
