Thursday, March 01, 2012 8:11:58 AM "My great-grandmother is somehow both a Morman and racist.. (Can someone explain THAT combo?)" Have you even glanced at their scriptures? The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is VERY racist. "And [God] had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people, the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them. And thus saith the Lord God; I will cause that they shall be loathsome unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities." (2 Nephi 5:21) They think black is a curse from God for being bad. |

Thursday, March 01, 2012 8:05:26 AM @Crakr That's not a stat about the administration, that's a stat about the government. There are a number of things they could be upset about that aren't going to make them vote Republican. |

Thursday, March 01, 2012 7:24:35 AM jtrebowski: I believe the 2008 statistic was that 87% of black people voted for Obama. But.. A newly released NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that 49 percent of African-Americans feel the country is headed in the right direction, versus 38 percent who say the country is on the wrong track. So he is not likely to have the near unanimous support, from blacks, that he did in 2008. |

Thursday, March 01, 2012 3:15:49 AM Um, has anyone suggested 'Blackdonalds' yet? I think this is just a bit patronising. Micky D's should stick to doing junk-food, not moralising. Probably not thought through carefully before implementation. So there. |

Wednesday, February 29, 2012 7:17:48 PM As far as McDonald's Corp's move in this direction, I can only say that February is recognized as "Black History Month" by the U.S. government. I can attest that they changed every single "motivational" poster in their regional office for this month. They also have more people employed at high levels based off this one aspect of the employee. Qualification. I have never worked in a more ethnically diversified environment in my life. (This includes military bases, courthouses, and hospitals.) In just ONE regional office I have met more people that I wish I could have been than in the entire 13 years I've been working in I.T. The reason I’m not in those positions is because I chose to act and dress a certain way. Period. I potentially had “white privilege” working for me, and I chose to instead, “rebel” against the mainstream. All it got me was years of my life wasted proving I wasn’t t |

Wednesday, February 29, 2012 7:01:06 PM I guess the character counter is off. ME. <end 1st post> I changed. I got a normal haircut and normal clothes. I still have the stigma of an F.B.I. record attached to my name at 32 which I acquired at 15. As far as race is concerned, you will meet none more racist than older people in the deep south. Slavery may not have still been around, but segregation was. We all have deep family ties, and if your grandparents went through either side of that fight, they are still fighting it. My great-grandmother is somehow both a Morman and racist.. (Can someone explain THAT combo?) I've been called worse things by octogenarian African-Americans than "cracker", WHILE I was fixing their computer.. It is a sad realization, but some ideas are so deep rooted, they only die when those that hold onto them die. I wish this were not the case, but sadly it seems to be.

Wednesday, February 29, 2012 6:36:30 PM I rarely comment on this site, but I am drawn to do so now. I am in the unique position of being on all sides of this matter. I am in fact a Caucasian male, but I grew up in both rural Georgia, and a predominantly African-American portion of Florida. On top of which I am also currently an outside support technician for McDonalds' regional corporate office. I hold several high level technical certifications yet no degrees. I have tested at genius level on multiple I.Q. tests, yet am a high school dropout with a G.E.D. My family stole food from a farm next door while I was growing up, yet as an adult I am permitted access to more highly restricted areas than most government employees. I have had ZERO "White Privilege" my entire life. I was chased out of school by student and teacher alike. I was refused entrance to anything beyond community college. I was disqualified for student loans because my mother wouldn't cosign. Why; because I dressed and acted like a thug. What changed |

Wednesday, February 29, 2012 5:46:30 PM My point is it's not worth noting. My point is who the hell cares? It's completely irrelevant in a world where we're trying to abolish racial boundaries. What do we gain by acknowledging it over and over again? "Oh yeah, our ancestors did that. It was bad. End of story." That's all there really is to say about it.

Wednesday, February 29, 2012 5:16:04 PM @aroc91 - I don't even know where to start with you. Committed?! Dangling it over you?! If that's how you feel then... I merely brought up a point I thought was worth noting. For you to get all butt-hurt over it is kind of ridiculous. Obviously slavery is bad, but to push it under the rug and play like it never happened is also pretty bad. That's all my point was about, and suddenly that's 'dangling over your heads'? If only bringing up the point causes that kind of reaction.... |
