Monday, February 27, 2012 12:33:49 PM Nirvana was so famous because they personified the whole Grunge Rock. Not the best band in the world, but they certainly had a lot of number ones. On a related note, I met Dave Grohl at the Grand National Roadster Show. This dude took his kid to see some damned beautiful cars. And was really cool when people said hello. Normal guy, unchanged by fame. |

Sunday, February 26, 2012 1:03:32 PM I like some Foo Fighters songs. I can see why Nirvana was popular. Not my cup of tea though. |

Sunday, February 26, 2012 6:47:50 AM They're original in the fact that they aren't pretentious douches like so many famous people today. |

Saturday, February 25, 2012 9:59:32 PM Foo Fighters legendary now? Thought it was a decent pop rock band delivering tried formulas that sold really well. Not really famous for carving any new ground. The status of legendary requires some level of originality. |

Saturday, February 25, 2012 8:35:35 PM You can tell your age by @Edgar's question. My youngest sister is 12 years my junior and she didn't know until I mentioned it a few months back. |

Saturday, February 25, 2012 1:45:23 PM I like him and all, but the Foo Fighters never would of started had he not been in Nirvana first. What I mean by that, is he got a record deal for being who he was, not what he could do. It just turns out that he didn't waste their time or money. |

Saturday, February 25, 2012 1:35:02 PM And then there's James Jamerson, easily the most successful musician you've heard millions of times but have never known the name |

Saturday, February 25, 2012 1:30:28 PM I'm pretty sure Eric Clapton has that beaten. Been in a legendary rock band FOUR TIMES! (Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, and his various solo projects including Derek and the Dominos) |

Saturday, February 25, 2012 1:11:46 PM @xelous--I'd be inclined to agree with you. Nirvana had a huge impact on music because their rise to fame opened up the path for other alternative, grungy bands to become famous, but that doesn't mean they had some incredible talent, or anything. What they have is pretty good, but not mind blowing. I almost feel like they would have gotten a lot more interesting if Kurt had just waited to put out another album before offing himself. You could see on In Utero that he was starting to take his writing in a more artistic direction. Foo Fighters are just plain solidly good. Some of their songs are near the top of my list of all-time favorites...but they also have entire albums that I find to be "meh" at best. Queens of the Stone Age are freaking awesome. I don't really have anything else to add to that. They just are. |
