He reenacted a similar scene from his own, tramatized childhood receiving punishment. He got something out of that. It's both funny and sad.

It's not tough to fool people into believing you're a good psychologist when the only people that watch your show are old people, stay at home parents, and the unemployed. F.uck Phil Mcgraw and his phony garbage talk.

"He works in IT, right? He should have known the possibility of the video going viral."

And the probability of a video going viral is as small as you having a car accident tomorrow morning. Are you going to blame people who get hit by cars as well since they could have stayed at home?

"The only way to achieve good behavior is to promote good behavior and not to punish bad behavior. "

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *gasp* HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I can't wait to see how your kids turn out.
Right little demons I'll bet.

Really dude, it's both that's needed. Reinforce all behavior. Positive behavior is positively reinforced and Negative behavior has Negative Reinforcement.

Life is balance.

"If you don't teach your kids that there are punishments for their bad behavior, then you're raising brats that believe they can get away with everything.

That way you teach them to fear the punishment and not that they don't get anything from bad behavior. Punishment is limited, you'll eventually run out of options. What is the next thing he'll attempt to get good behavior?

The only way to achieve good behavior is to promote good behavior and not to punish bad behavior. An essential aspect is to give an example through your own behavior.

He wants a coffee? She is damn right that he should get up and get one himself. In addition he should ask her if she wants anything instead of commanding her to do it. Of course that applies to her, too.

BlankTom-"wow this guy's kind of an attention whore, isn't he? "

You're just now realizing that about Dr. Phil?

ElliotR-"Quite accidently embarrassed your child?"

Yes, he posted the video to the same people she posted her trash to. He had no idea it would go viral.

banur-"Obviously, as he destroys value and gains nothing. "

Laptops have little are no value and are easily replaced. What he got from the destruction of that laptop was worth more than any amount of laptops.

I really like how 'Dr.' Phil just HAD to bring up '100,000 kids born this year will be molested by their father'. WTF? Had nothing to do with this case! He even admits that it doesn't. But the very fact that Phil brought it up associates it with this case in simpleton's minds (which is his target audience, and the ONLY reason he mentioned it). It's his sad attempt to associate this father with molestation.

This is a good case of how children grow up to do the same stupid shiat you did to them. That might be the good of this for people to see the repeated patterns of how bad parenting gets handed to the next generation.

Wow, this was the first time I thought Phil made some real sense. Maybe because he wasn't on his programmed reality show. Which I haven't really payed attention to. And probably wont in the future. But just like what this dad did doesn't make him a bad parent overall, some good advice from Phil doesn't mean he's always dispassionately dispensing good information.

@diylobotomy:
That "some reason" is that he's doing it wrong. I'm happy that he admitted that he overreacted, as he is already doing better than most parents who would simply hole up in their misinformation and provincial attitudes about 'raisin' up' the kids. What most concerns me is the 9/10 'like' posts to facebook. I understand that anyone who nodded approvingly to his actions has neither a good understanding of how actions like these distance a child from her parents nor how these actions in the end actually promote further emotional issues for the child. These are facts backed by both molecular developmental biology and statistics. My medical degree tells me this. What makes me so upset is that even after spending pages explaining to people how to properly raise a teen who is already beset by familial and social extremes, even those who understand my point will go to the "don't tell him how to raise his child!"

he is DANGEROUS and UNLICENSED.

Dr. Phil is NOT a therapist and what he does is wrong and is not the therapeutic process.

Dr. Phil forces his agenda onto his guest. In therapy and therapist should never force their agenda onto a client.

client's face changes when they are ready too, not when the therapist thinks they should.

he is dangerous and gives therapy a horrible name.

"Kids these days are little entitled non-nice individuals cause they are not punished properly."

Yes, because raising children is all about punishing them properly instead of teaching them was is right.

"I think the father was raised right [...]"

Obviously, as he destroys value and gains nothing.
In addition he posts a video on facebook and couldn't imagine that it may spread even though he works with computers for a living.

@evanbartlett, The issue is that for some reason, people think its their place to tell everyone else how to raise their kids. This guy did what he thought was right and eventually admitted that he overreacted. Why is this still in the news? Because people like Dr. Phil can't keep their stupid opinions to themselves.

Couldn't finish listening to Phil, he's too full of himself, and a huge hypocrite.

As for the video being posted, doesn't matter if it was 30 people or 30 million that saw it. It's the same result, people saw it.

Kids these days are little entitled non-nice individuals cause they are not punished properly. I think the father was raised right, but he didn't pay enough attention to raising his daughter the same. Also, he's not allowed to raise her the same way anymore, plus you have all her peers undoing whatever he tries.

I wanna click it, but something about Phils face makes me want to punch it. He's just so full of himself, and really, what's a few mins taking in front of a crowd going to do. Aren't these sort of things supposed to take place somewhere calm and private and occur over a few sessions.

"And I love the "appropriate or abuse" headline. Are there really people that think a 15 year old girl not being able to use the internet counts as abuse?"

Well, yes, there are. But that's not the issue. The issue is that he posted his response to the internet. His poor parenting is a result of his inability to be "the calm in the storm."
