Helix: It's possible that the celebration that gays display (in parades, for example) may just be a collective "breath of fresh air" for them. They have been told that they are sinners, unnatural, evil, etc. for a very long time in this country (US), and there appears to be a slow realization from everyone else that they aren't so bad after all.

I have a 6 month old daughter. How would I react if she came out one day? I hope something like this: "Why did you feel the need to tell me this? Had you been heterosexual, would have felt the need to directly inform me one day? I love you no matter your preferences or inclinations. I'll tell you the same as I would have told any child of mine of any persuasion: Don't date trash. Be careful. I can't control your life outside of this house and I try not to dominate your life inside of this house, but please be careful. There's lots of heartbreak, danger, disease and deception out there among boys and girls alike, but there's lots of beauty, love, happiness and wonder, too. If you can't tell the difference in a given situation, I'm happy and eager to talk with you so that we might be able to figure it out."

I don't think the kid is being disrespectful, if he's anything like me he's not even answering texts, he just can't look his mom in the eyes while saying something like that. It's just hard to do.

helix25: I agree with you, even though I am religious. Chastising gays is as stupid as what the WBC idiots do. I don't advertise my Christianity in the real world and would prefer others not advertise their affiliations either.

Although I'm mostly against homosexuality, I don't believe we need to stigmatize and make people feel bad about themselves. My views aren't religious, I think it's important to maintain a balance of positivity in life in order to work things out. His mother did a great job at that, but I agree with her when it comes ADVERTISING your sexuality. Most of my negative feelings towards homosexuality come from the majority of gays who participate in gay pride parades and rub it in everyone's faces. And YES, it's a majority, of there wouldn't be so many of them in these parades around the world. This kid has a good mom.

I think he has his phone as a kind of security blanket. that's a hard thing to do. he needs something to comfort him. this video made me tear up.

The mom seems really cool. The kid does need to get off his phone though. It's incredibly rude to text while having a conversation with anyone.

Hello Gerry1of1,
my impression is similar to iamboredtooo's
i don't care whether you're gay or not,
but i like your posts,
so i think you should take some time to think/inform yourself
about gay people (about 5 to 10% of mankind are gay),
just to feel more comfortable when dealing with posts like this one. You are around my age, so you should know several gay persons, on the job, in the family, in your neighborhood.
Maybe, a little bit of reflection makes you more "cool", when dealing with them.
Good luck and continue your posts.

He seems like a brat. His mom is obviously a very sweet woman and all he does is ignore her and fiddle with his damn phone.

Why the big spectacle of "coming out"? You could tell within 10 seconds that he was gay, I'm sure his Mom has known since he was a small child.

I LOL @ gerry1of1 (at him not at what he said)

he always gets SO very uncomfortable/angry around gay-topic posts

repressed homosexuals from the olden days always react that way.

yea - there we go...i did it, I've outed Gerry1of1
