First, Second and Third worlds are Cold War definitions.

First world=USA, Western Europe, Australia, Japan, etc. I.e. "the west"

Second World=The Sovjet Union, Eastern Europe, China, Cuba, etc. I.e. "commies"

Third world=The ones who weren't part of the west or the commies. So all of Africa is part of the third world.

"So, why didn't you kick the angel of death's ass before he got to my place, fix my car, make the drunk crash into a pole, heal the sandwich maker, kill the battery in the liar's phone instead of mine, and rewire my foot massager? If you're truly omnipotent, you could just as easily have done all that, and I would have had a nice day instead of being miserable, pissed off, and depressed all day. Do you enjoy making me miserable, pissed off, and depressed?"

It's quite scary that there are people out there who do have such a simplistic and childish way of looking at life. They really must have fragile minds.

So god sent a death angel, then sent another angel to battle it out. - Just wanted to watch a fight
Didn't stop the drunks car from starting - Wanted to watch the guy weave all over the road.
Didn't stop the sick person from coming in to work at all - Just wanted to watch all the other people get sick who ate coughed-on-sandwiches.
I don't blame god, I mean he needs entertainment too.

Also, "making association based on a stereotype". <-- There's the problem. Stereotyping is not a good thing.

The reason I mentioned using the earth as an example was to show that using Africa as an example is stupidly vague. If you lived a life of luxury alone on the moon, I'm sure you still wouldn't be inclined to say that those people living on Earth are a bunch of poor draters...

Breadman:

"Also, the majority of people on earth are poor. About 80% of ALL people live on less than $10 a day. So do you think "Meanwhile, on Earth" would have been a relevant comment? Of course not, because not all people are poor. For the same reason, "Meanwhile, in Africa" is also not a relevant comment".

It would have been if you were a freaking Alien. While it's true that most of the world's population live in poverty, it is in no way, shape or form a stereotype. A stereotype refers to a sub-group of people. That's the whole point. Yet, again, your example is nonsensical.

It is a relevant comment, because he is making association based on a stereotype in order to get his point a cross. You are too stubborn to realize this. I just saw now that you are from Africa, I guess that explains why you're being all butt-hurt haha.

kummi, that's exactly why I mentioned a person of average weight getting tired during a marathon. Saying "Well, at least he's not American" is situationally inappropriate, even though it may be more likely that he would be overweight if he was American.

Nope, internet forums are pretty much the best place to be. I can't think of any other place with a greater proportion of liberal thinkers.

Okay, never mind the thing about equality then.
"But does that mean that Canadians and Americans should both be assumed to be equally overweight".
No, the stereotype is that Americans are fat, not Canadians. Why would you apply a stereotype to include a place where the stereotype has no basis/is not a stereotype. Meanwhile, USA is at the top of the charts, when it comes to obesity rates.
No, I don't agree with stereotyping. But that is not the issue here. You think what he said was ridiculous, I don't see why.
Like I have explained, all countries in Africa can be considered "poor", by our standard. So what he says holds up.
"but seeing something vaguely related to weight and immediately thinking "Oh, America" is ridiculous"
I agree with that. However, yet again, you are comparing apples and oranges. He wasn't just BLURTING stuff out of the blue, he was making a social statement by contrasting the original po

@Breadman: if you get upset over every stereotype that you are possibly included in, then perhaps internet forums are not the best place to be.

I-IS-BORED, although all of the countries in Africa may be classified as third-world, there are several totally developed areas in Africa, and there are millions of people in Africa who live in a developed, i.e. First world environment. It is therefore totally incorrect, and no more than a stereotype, to say that all Africans are poor.

I won't, because it's a joke at the expense of all the people in Africa that aren't poor, or uneducated, or stupid. If I didn't know that there are many people who visit this site that genuinely believe that the whole of Africa is just a big jungle full of poor, uneducated, disease-ridden ape-men, then I would have let it go. And alright, since that guy's on Earth too, and you feel the need to nit-pick, why not say "Meanwhile, elsewhere in the world"?

Ya sure it's a generalization. I mean sure, every country in Africa is classified as third world but saying Africa is a third world continent would be like saying all Hostess Twinkies are bad for you.

So why not say "Meanwhile, on Earth"?

Because all meaning would then be lost, since that guy's on Earth too. Sure, the person could have said "Meanwhile, in Sierra Leone", but then you're just splitting hairs. Just take it for what it is: a joke that points out the apparent favourtism of God towards white christians in first world countries.

In other words, if you're going to stereotype, then that's your baby, but leave me out of it. I live in Africa, but I'm not uneducated, poor, stupid or ignorant, so I don't need to see "Haha, Africa", thank you very much.

Yes, the majority of people in Africa live in the third world. However, as I've mentioned before, the majority of people ON EARTH live in the third world. So why not say "Meanwhile, on Earth"? If you're going to be specific enough to pick a continent, at least be specific enough to pick a country. Otherwise, people start to think that Africa is "That place where third world people live", which is an idiotic generalisation, even though it may apply to the majority of Africa, just as saying that the earth is "That place where third world people live" is an idiotic generalisation, even though it may apply to the majority of the world.

For the same reason, "Meanwhile, in Africa" is also not a relevant comment.

Well seeing as how the majority of Africans are suffering in third world hell I'd say it's an appropriate comment. It's not about poverty, it's about suffering i.e. God was helping some herp derper not get sick from a sandwich instead of helping suffering people in Africa. One could just as easily have said "Meanwhile, in Tibet", but the majority of Africans live in the third world.
