Been playing music for over 15 years myself, and I can say that this kid is better than most drummers I have met. Which is a lot of them. |

I actually didn't hear many polyrhythms at all. But the "he couldn't carry a beat" argument is ridiculous. He was soloing. He's supposed to be all over the place.
The kid is good, but he's average for that age range. He's just luckily getting exposure. Good for him. (my credentials for this comment: 12 yrs drumming experience, soon to have music degree) |

they're called polyrhythms. Yes, he's changing up the beat, but he's carrying the rhythm with him. It just sounds different, but as far as I could tell he never actually lost the beat. |

Not impressed at all by the "only 16 years old" thing. The drummer for Santana, playing at Woodstock, was 16. He was amazing.
Now, that being said, this guy is a freaking prodigy. That is some of the best drumming I've heard in years (and I play music professionally). Keep your eyes open for this kid. You'll be hearing his name a lot in the years to come. |
