And don't get me wrong, it's remarkable that the chimp was able to be trained to do this. But trying to say that humans are unable to do it, when the chimp has been trained a lot more than humans, is an unfair comparison.

"You need to see the next part of the programme where the presenter goes head to head and can't even get one right. The reveal time is shortened to 0.04 of a second and the chimp still gets them all right. That amount of time isn't enough for the presenter to even see all the numbers."

I'm assuming the presenter hasn't practiced nearly as much as the chimp, if at all. Chimp practicing a task for 5 years versus presenter practicing hardly at all, who do you expect to do better? It's not like this was a natural talent that the chimp had, he had to learn to do it, just like a human would have to learn to do it.

It's funny how some are offended by the idea that we evolved from the same ancestors as the all the other great apes. Then they tell you that we came from dirt.

"Just a well trained ape, I'm sure if a human focused the same amount of time, overall, that this one chimp has, they could do the same."

jtrebowski: Not at all. Walking upright and being able to understand abstract thought has many advantages and is much more satisfying.

It's pretty much a 'one trick pony'.

Actually there is very little intelligence involved at all and if any one of you has practiced as much as this guy you could do it too. Just look at the idiots texting and driving . . . well maybe the ape IS smarter after all!

"if you spent 5 years doing the same thing you could probably do just as well."

Yes coyoteking, if you spent 5 years training, you could match the inteligence of a chimp.

"if you spent 5 years doing the same thing you could probably do just as well. he was trained to do that, he is better than humans at it because we don't do it all day everyday like he does"

This comment is ridiculous. This is not the sort of intelligence animals have been thought to possess. A few decades ago, the world thought humans were the only species that used tools. We know that was wrong. We used to think that humans were the only species capable of altruism. That has also been proven to be wrong. Don't dismiss something like this.
