if you want animals treated right, then vote with your dollars. If you buy the cheapest eggs possible without paying attention to how they are produced, then you are directly supporting it.
You can choose with your money. We dont need more laws which always make it harder for smaller producers.

grindinblade: I don't know where you got the 80% antibiotic use statistic, but if it keeps meat from getting tainted and sickening people then it's worth it, these animals live rather short lives, a few years, It's doubtful that any bacteria could survive long enough to adapt and spread. Even if one did the USDA has quarantine procedures to eliminate any possibility of further contamination. |

@CrakrJak I agree that there we shouldn't compare farm animals to pets, they aren't even close to the same. However, industrial farming like this requires animals to receive lots of antibiotics. Over 80% of antibiotics used are for farm animals (around 20% of antibiotic usage is for humans). This widespread use is only setting us to form super bugs that are resistant to antibiotics and will cause us a lot of health problems in the future. Compound this with pharma companies not developing any new antibiotics due to the extended patent times of existing drugs and we could see a lot of problems when the next major pandemic occurs. |

We don't have these type of pens out here, I've never seen pigs, chickens, cows, turkeys or other meat animals housed this way. Perhaps that's because we have a lot more wide open land here in the Midwest or perhaps the FFA teaches better practices than the ones in this video.
However, I'm not going to shed a tear over a chicken, pig, or cow. Farm animals are not pets and trying to equate them with cats and dogs for fundraising purposes is just wrong. |

They should ban these practices, but also need to add a retail certification of welfare score, so that consumers can be aware why they should buy humane domestic products over intensively raised imports. |

I don't much care how my food is made . . . as long as it is healthy for me and cheap. Has any of you ever killed your food yourself? That deer or rabbit or chicken really doesn't want to become dinner. But I eat meat so Bambi BBQ it is! |

People still are unaware of CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feed Lots)? I am an omnivore, and I like to eat meat. My solution is to use the website EatWild to look for local meat animals while moving towards using meat more as a flavoring (stir fries, stews, soups, and so forth). I invested $500 in a freezer plus the electricity and once a year buy half a cow to supply me, my wife, and my mother with about 12 months of meat. The cost per pound is $4.29, which is quite competitive with store bought meats that cater to high production systems like McDonald's (which also has affected our tomato and potato food chain, so veggies are also under threat by industrial farming). Sure, that is expensive ground beef - but it is rather cheap for several other cuts. A whole cow is too much for my needs, but goes down to about $4.00 a pound (processed). Better yet, my money goes to a local farmer raising the product - not some CAFO in California. There are responsible options for meat eaters. |

The HSUS is a fraud. They are an advocacy group that doesn't run a single shelter or rescue a single pet (OK maybe a few rabbits). If you want to donate to a worthy animal welfare group donate to your local ASPCA. |

You don't know that. Mr. Pacelle has been vegan for two decades so I doubt they are leather. I have a belt that looks just like leather but is completely vegan. |
