Football is enjoyed globally, american football is only watched by those in The United States of America, so unless the rest of the world starts to watch it- and why would they- american football will never get as many fans... |

The audience for the Superbowl in the last three years has gone 106 million, 111 million, 113 million.
The number of people watching the 2006 World Cup DRAW - not even a match, just the group selection - was 300 million. (The final for that year was watched by 751 million people if you were wondering. That's more than 1 in 10 people who were alive at the time.) I wouldn't say that's anything like getting "closer every year".
As for annual events, the last few years have been a toss-up between the Champions League final and the Superbowl. Some years it's one, some the other. |

I am with you almightybob1, the FIFA World Cup Final is the most watched sporting event worldwide. And I even think that worldwide, some of the Cricket World Cup matches draw more viewers than the Super Bowl. |

The only people who pay attention to American football are American, Football proper is worldwide and I guess the most popular. However- Rugby wins all round among those of taste and refinement, and those of us here who live in Europe care even if you lot do not. |

its true the fifawc is currently the most watched sporting event in the world, and then i think its olympics and THEN the SB but the superbowl gets closer every year and its just a matter of time before the pittsburgh steelers are stomping the manchester muggles or the denmark dbags and then American Football World Domination will be complete. |

I don't follow football that much, and to make matters worse I can't get a channel in Canada that plays the good commercials, all the commercial feeds are Canadian commercials, so I just don't even bother. :( At least I saw most of them before the game and the rest after. |
