Monday, February 06, 2012 8:01:07 PM Anyone that works with wood all day and still wears a suit to work is respectable, if not just for that. |

Sunday, February 05, 2012 5:07:36 AM @Molehouse this is not a wooden Morgan chassis and it's not for sheet metal forming. @tedgp they're not mostly made of wood, but you're right, some of the major structural bits are wooden and yes, they are dangerous to crash. I wouldn't turn one down though. |

Sunday, February 05, 2012 2:55:43 AM Theres a factory in my town where they still do this. http://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/# I was lucky enough to work there for a while, and all the chasis/body parts are made by hand. |

Saturday, February 04, 2012 7:06:13 PM I think today they use some kind of CNC milled construction foam for the clay armature, but it's still similar. |

Saturday, February 04, 2012 6:47:39 PM I guess someone's pointed out this is clay modeling, part of the design process, but notice the black windows on the adjacent car. They're painted on because it's a completed clay mock-up. |

Saturday, February 04, 2012 4:05:55 PM @Rick_S: I have a cousin who's a design engineer at Ford. She tells me that they do the 3D modeling first, now (it effectively substitutes for pencil-and-paper in the past) but, you're correct, one of the next steps is clay modeling. |

Saturday, February 04, 2012 4:04:55 PM You can see them laying the clay on, actually (the two guys by the windshield). The only real difference, as I understand it, is the clay might be sculpted by a CNC machine. That's about the only real difference. |
