Monday, February 06, 2012 12:02:07 AM The reason I don't dick around with American comics in a nutshell. Seriously, the only ones I pay attention to anymore are Deadpool (because he's fucking insane, and always hilarious for it) and... Well, that's about it. Occasionally I'll read something else while I'm standing around near a comic rack, but I don't actually pay attention to the stories anymore. I can't stand it when the same characters are used and abused over and over and over again, with minor variations between authors. It shows a severe lack of creativity as far as I'm concerned. Even if you can't break a mold, at least make your own character. After the original run by the original author, I consider any use of a character fan-fiction, and most fan-fiction isn't worth reading. |

Saturday, February 04, 2012 11:51:11 PM What the video completely does not get is the subtext of superman is the concept of a god living amongst us. He was always going to defeat death .. especially as he was he was one of DC's core franchises. He can no more die than Mickey Mouse can die. It's not to say you can't write a comic with mortal superheroes, such as Watchmen, but if the publisher decides to milk it with serialisation and prequels, you'll get all manner of plot device-based immortality. It happens in the movies, too. Ripley from Aliens is an example. |

Saturday, February 04, 2012 6:57:21 PM Good, I was right in completely ignoring that whole thing when it came out. I did buy an original art page from that story line. It has a low shot of Supergirl showing her panties and Luthor with lots of hair. Comic book writers overuse death because it is a cheap way to achieve "significance". They see themselves as artists and, for the most part, lazy-minded hacks. Intellectually, they are like high school varsity players trying to play in the major leagues. |

Saturday, February 04, 2012 5:44:47 PM I might have just missed it in the whole hibernation part but did they not also explain how being kryptonian he wouldn't die from a mere beating and only did so because of his human moral values? As ridiculous as this storyline sounds, Crisis on Infinite Earths was so much worse and was made some 6+ years earlier. Anyone that read that HAD to know Supes wasn't dead or at the very least another superman from another dimension would take over on Earth-Prime. (If that was even where the story was taking place) The only reason comic books set a precedent now is to break it. It's sad really, but this is what happens when greed overtakes creative integrity; like a M. Knight Shambalam movie. This was hilarious though, so I guess without the ridiculousness of the modern age comic books we wouldn't have this to enjoy. |

Saturday, February 04, 2012 5:22:35 PM True story: the girl who plays Hank Henshaw's wife (the one who was phasing in and out of existence or whatever) is played by a porn star named Misti Dawn. |

Saturday, February 04, 2012 5:02:43 PM He skipped over the whole radiation/combination of Eradicator, Cyborg, and the amnesia/coma Superman. And he omitted Lex Luthor's role in the story, as well as a bunch of other details, but I guess they had to or it would've been thirty minutes long. |

Saturday, February 04, 2012 3:52:02 PM He needs to do Spider-man. I stopped reading the comic right around the same time the death of superman happened. I think. Anyway, at that time there was this weird cloning thing going on with spider-man and people were dying and popping back up all over the place. Beyond bizarre. |
