There wouldn't need to be a barter system if all the needs were taken care of, and precious metals are only valuable because people prize them. We use the abundant metals much more than gold or silver. There is no real reason to value precious metals. Life existed without them and can do the same again.

piperfawn: Don't be naive enough to believe there will be an end to money. Sure paper currency can collapse, but precious metals will always remain valuable and still be used, if all else fails.

You've bought into the false ideology of a 'zero sum' game, where the rich can only get richer by taking from the poor and that's just false.

"MMMMMM butter!! What was China's official government again?? I take it you also own the complete che guevara fashion ensemble?"

I'd love a Bellstaff Trailmaster and Cohiba thanks, if you'll let me forgo the beret and bullet wounds.

No one is so crazy to pretend to reach perfection, we are just humans born with limits like our planets. Once we have stated that how we ruling the world lead us to destruction the most intelligent thing to do is to change and not to go further on repeating what is shown to be bad for us, also mices in laboratory learn that once you touch the red button and you take a shock instead of a cookie is better to not continue to touch the red button. Is just logic, the thing we are flaunting to be the supreme owners on this planet.

@piperfawn

If we were to get rid of currency that would bring us back to a barter system which is still capitalism. Nothings ever perfect.

CrakrJak obviously you don't have watch the movie if you talk about equal income. The end of this movie suggest to erase all money. Crakr the humanity have shown during the history the ability to rise from falls, that's correct, but when that was happen there where no oil, no nuclear faillure, no pollution, no debts that create debts out of nothing, no 7 bilions people raising at exponential velocity, no cargos that release tons of oil in the middle of oceans, not bilions of cars, not bilions of usefull but overabused technology, no shortage of raw materials and so on...( fill the dots with all the situations we are facing). This planet is not done of infinite resources, free trades and so on are really beautiful concepts but if not regulated lead us to destruction. Humans are not ready and don't have the deserved responsibility to play with infinite freedom cause the result is the mess we are living.

piperfawn: I don't believe all the doom and gloom BS, Piper. Human beings have shown the greatest ability to not only adapt but to overcome.

The only system by which people have pulled themselves out of grinding poverty, that you are bemoaning, are those with freedom and largely free trade. Bill Gates wasn't born rich, neither was Steve Jobs.

Your naive belief, that forcing everyone to have equal income, has been tried and failed many many times. Hippie communes didn't work in the 60's and 70's and neither does communism.

McGovern1981 why you so dumb? You answer yourself in your question when you say "was". In any case in the world there are just 5 states, including China also if is not really true, that are communist. The rest of the states or are capitalistic or are under the direct influence or slavery of capitalistic economy. So now go out and hunt your communists, good luck with that blind mole.

McGovern1981 Capitalism have killed and is still killing much more people, the final plan is to erase humanity from this planet. You talk as if communism is still so present in the world, why don't you watch at where our capitalism is leading us. Oh sorry asking you to go out from your ball of butter and taking notes on our actual capitalistic world is to much effort right? Who talk about communism nowaday as if it was the bigger problem of this planet just show to have a really backlog conception of our actual life.

CrakrJak so for you the solution is just to wait until the ship sink. When all will be destroied, and this is gonna happen sooner than you expect, i assure that desires and selfishness will be our last step in this galaxy. The evolution, but i'm not sure if this concept is familiar for you, ask for effort and renounce. I agree with you that this two concept nowaday are really far from our way of life, but if we continue to stomp our feet as spoiled childs in front of a candy store we will leave just this last mark on the sidewalk, nothing more.

Draculya: Utopia will never exist, the world of Star Trek is a pipe dream. The human appetite for enlightened self-interest is too strong, you would call it greed, but it encompasses fame and proclivity as well.

It's all well and fine to yearn for a better society, but you can't take liberty and freedom away from people to do it, they will revolt to gain back their rights and desires.

Something tells me MorfeuS has a wardrobe of Che Guevara shirts and spends his day blaming the US for all of his problems.

Draculya i clearly understand what you mean and i'm sure is like you say, Rome was'nt built in a day. I think they are just suggesting how a better world could be and for sure this require time and maybe lot of sacrifice. What i find interesting in this movie is not the utopistic, also if doable, idea of new cities and a better organization of our life but the idea that if we want to change we have all to act against the status quo also with the sacrifice of our actual wellness, maybe this is the part more utopic, but you know revolutions are not without efforts. One thing is sure, if we continue with this crazyness in a near future there will be no more space for our wellness, we must to find a way to go forward also if is unconfortable for ours actual standards. They are just suggesting a well calculated way.

@piperfawn Thanks, I saw that bit and just in case I rewatched the segment, but they didn't address my concerns. Don't get me wrong, I am all for meaningful change to a utopian future, but we can't teleport to the world of Star Trek Next Generation (which is more or less the society they describe) without dealing with the two killer flaws which again are transition and human nature.

Ah @MorfeuS, I've just decoded your post. You think I'm against change because I'm pro-American and wealthy. Well Crakr and Cyber will tell you otherwise on that first score. I am highly critical of the current American society and culture, I know economics and the monetary system and its faults. Yes, I am doing alright, but recognise that the stakes here far eclipse my personal capital, my own life, even my family's lives. Change has to be meaningful.

You also said that I threw Marx in here. Well, they did in the video. Actually, there are parallels with Marxism, but it's not Marxism or any flavour of communism that we've seen. I am a big fan of Marx and his thinking but I also recognise its flaws.
