Andre died on January 27, 1993 of congestive heart failure... The song "Don't Worry, Be Happy" was released in September 1988 on EMI Records...
I got a chance to meet him when I was 6 (would have been 1987). My father brought me to visit my uncle in a hospital in Boston, and in the waiting room was a bunch of WWF wrestlers... There was a live show that night and they were there to visit one of the guys that had gotten hurt. I'm not sure who it was at this point. My dad, being a wrestling fan, started conversations with them and I got to shake all their hands... Andre stood up from his chair and when I put my hand out to shake his, I could barely get my hand around one of his fingers. The man was monstrous to an average full grown man, let alone a 6 year old little boy. |

Wasn't he dead before that sound came out anyway? Mm, maybe not - I forget and am too lazy to google it...he appeared at a state fair here in RI when I was like six and I didn't get to see him and get a picture with him :( Still sad over it. |

As a devoted fan of old school wrestling, I can say with 150% certainty that this is NOT Andre singing. His voice was far deeper and his accent was WAY thicker.
And as a MASSIVE music geek, particularly 80s music, I can say with the same amount of certainty that this IS just Bobby McFerrin slowed down to half or quarter speed... The accent you are hearing is an illusion caused by slowing down the audio mixed with McFerrin's natural inflection on the end of the lines or certain words in the song. |
