Tuesday, January 31, 2012 8:35:46 PM Forget about downloading a car, that's likely to never happen in our lifetimes. There are however, many, many things that could be downloaded and "printed" out. Sounds great right? It does until you think about how many people will be put out of work because of it. At some point people, we are going to get a handle on all this technology that is replacing people. What are people going to do to earn money? You think unemployment is bad now, just wait another 10 years, it will be at 20% or more. We will have to completely rearrange our system of commerce and how people earn livings. Money will have to be replaced by something else based on some activity other than work. If you sit back and think through it to it's logical conclusion, you will arrive at the same thing I do. "The internet and computers will one day be looked upon as the single greatest destroyer of jobs and concentrator of wealth ever devised by mankind." Me 20 |

Saturday, January 28, 2012 1:48:56 PM "these things are being fundamentally and irrevocably changed in how they're distributed, financed, and made." Yes... all for the better. They're distributed internationally, simultaneously, cheaply, quickly, and immediately. It is everything the free market claims to achieve, but hasn't. The idea that industries are being "destroyed" by piracy is bullpoo. Artists have always made minimal amounts from album sales (of which they get, at best 25%), compared to concerts (60%). Downloads have never demonstrated a 1 to 1 correlation to reduced sales. Studies showing each downloaded song, results in 0.08c in reduced sales ($0.0008), whilst penalties are as high as $65'000 per song. AKA you are penalized ~32500% of actually stealing it, under the argument it's "like stealing", which it drating isn't. |

Saturday, January 28, 2012 1:30:12 AM We had a 3D printer at my school. I made a sweet puzzle on it... then promptly lost it at a bus stop. <shakes fist> |

Friday, January 27, 2012 10:18:58 PM so that the heads of those companies can go buy yet another yacht. F*ck them, you can still get rich by making it available at a lesser cost (as long as it's above cost of production you'll still make a good profit). My point was that the price set is way too high, you self entitled dumbasses |

Friday, January 27, 2012 10:16:36 PM DromEd & Ruffiana seem to think I would want the car for free. I would gladly pay for it if it the price was just. Here's some german people discussing the cost of production of some Mercedes-Benz cars, through talking to people that work in the business. All that R & A and manufacturing costs you're talking about? When put into the (hugely efficient) production line turn out to be about 1500 to 15000 Euros depending on the car. Let's say you pick the cheapest car Mercedes Benz will sell you, and take the most expensive cost of production mentioned. What's that? it's a 400% profit? That's just the profit my friends. You know what that's called? Goddamn greed. If I've ever downloaded song or books, it's because I'm not willing to pay 500-10 000% the price of production so that the heads of thos |

Friday, January 27, 2012 9:36:47 PM "Wow. Just, wow. Yeah it's got nothing to do with a new generation of people who feel entitled to anything their little heart desires without having to work for it." No, it really doesn't. When I get better return in terms of hours of entertainment/dollar from going to the movies and buying the excessively overpriced popcorn than I do from buying a $90 video game, why the hell should that game cost $90? There was a time when games weren't 100% done after playing them for a total of 10 hours... |

Friday, January 27, 2012 8:19:22 PM A car would still need to be assembled, it's not going to come out in one piece on your desktop printer. Would you trust a car you built yourself? Most people struggle with IKEA. |

Friday, January 27, 2012 6:36:30 PM what an non-nice individual. yeah, lets get rid of manual labour altogether and download all this poo, what are these vast amounts of people in the production industry going to do when their skill is available at the click of a button? fortunately this is a pipedream, for now. sometimes geeks grind my gears. |

Friday, January 27, 2012 6:36:27 PM @DromEd Downloading of a song by someone who cannot afford it is of no loss to the record labels.. in fact its basically free advertising to anyone that hears it being played.. Lets say you build a classic GTO from scrap metal and broken glass, you build, weld, shape, paint and pay for the fuel.. would it be fair for you to pay Dodge a hefty sumbefore having the right to drive it? Would it or is it (genuinely asking) possible that downloading a song on your laptop which you paid for, on your internet which you pay for, doing all the work yourself in finding and acquiring said song is the same? there are so many sides and possible perceptions of theft its unreal... like the chick in (portugal?) that registered the sun in her name (yep)..you feel its just that you pay her to stand outside? IM going way off topic here so I'll leave it at that but the ideology is there.. |
