Saturday, January 28, 2012 3:15:16 PM stell-" the cop grabbed her by the wrist holding the knife within first few seconds. That makes her pretty much disarmed. " 'pretty much disarmed' is not the same as 'disarmed'. She would have been disarmed when the knife and cane were no longer in her hands. Try grabbing a knife from someone who has it clenched in their fist. The only accessible parts are either pointy or sharp. I feel sorry for the old lady, who was confused and not in her right mind. But the blame is on the caregiver. |

Friday, January 27, 2012 7:30:21 PM That woman was not launging at the cop, she was clearly walking away and her body language showed she was confused. Anyway, the cop grabbed her by the wrist holding the knife within first few seconds. That makes her pretty much disarmed. Anything after that, and especially a slam to the ground, is excessive force in this case. This wasn't some 300lb gangsta. All she had to do is raise her arm up or twist it back and pry the knife loose just like they did after she was lying on the ground. Smashing her head on the pavement was unnecessary. This sick cop was clearly either showing off or getting some pent up agression and rage out of her system - who to better do it to than a frail 90-year old woman....what a hero that cop is, I bet she even got a commendation for saving all the fat kids from the walmart parking lot - they clearly looked petrified at the beginning of the video, yay applause for the police heroes! |

There has to be something between "stop" and full body slam to the ground. Something less violent than that. |

Friday, January 27, 2012 1:39:37 PM MeGrendel, I didn't watch the whole video, only the smack-down (which I thought was pretty funny) I didn't know of the story behind why she was under arrest, but I can vouch that threatening kids is the easiest way to get arrested (I like to do this from my porch since I live near a park) and I don't think I was "pissed" at anyone, I was merely stating that police always seem to be the bad guys, when they have to deal with crazy people on a daily basis. |

Friday, January 27, 2012 7:12:02 AM Ujelly-" the old lady clearly was about to hit him with her cane." The officer was a woman. The lady had already cut herself with the knife and had also threatened some children. Want to be pissed at someone? Be pissed at her daughter, who left her unattended while she went shopping in Walmart. |

Friday, January 27, 2012 6:13:23 AM Yes the police should've waited till she was stabbing them with the knife she had! How exactly would any of you handle a crazy old lady coming at you with a knife? |

Friday, January 27, 2012 5:52:17 AM I don't know why people are giving the cop a hard time, the old lady clearly was about to hit him with her cane. The old lady was at fault. |

Friday, January 27, 2012 3:42:30 AM police rarely correctly assess a situation. welcome to our police state with half retarded cops that will shoot you dead for having a particularly deadly looking cellphone. |

Thursday, January 26, 2012 9:58:16 PM Opsass -It depends on the stage of Alzheimer, look it up, in this case she didn't understand and one does not need a medical degree to see that someone is no "there". And the rest of you , are you really justifying slamming an obviously weak 80-something woman to the ground with such force that her skull cracks? That cop already had a hold of the hand with the knife by a wrist. Do you think the old lady could have arm wrestled her? There were other cops there as well within meters. Slamming her to the ground was rage plain and simple. Many people with pent up rage and control issues go into police force and that's why there is so much scum there. |

Thursday, January 26, 2012 9:30:15 PM Looks like a felony aggravated battery to me, If a civilian had done that, it would be 8-10 years in the penitentiary. If a cop does it, though, its a week on desk duty. |

Thursday, January 26, 2012 9:28:44 PM @Stell, my grandfather passed and had Alzheimers. He understood people talking to him. Alzheimers does not equal retard. |

Thursday, January 26, 2012 9:08:29 PM Yeah, the cop should have done a mind-meld and realized the knife was not a serious threat due to the woman's mental condition. Then some hypnotic mind control could have disarmed her peacefully. I mean, what kind of training do cops get these days? (And I'd like to see how Stell would handle someone, even a senior, brandishing a knife and not reacting to instructions. Get off your high horse!) |

Thursday, January 26, 2012 8:22:43 PM Oh and I looked it up. The woman was holding a steak knife and suffers from Alzheimers, so she didn't even understand the cop said to her. She was holding a cane and the cop grabbed the hand with the knife first. That right there could have been enough, she did not have slam her to the ground and wich such force as to crack her head open. Like I said, scum. |

Thursday, January 26, 2012 7:29:36 PM Excessive force. Yes she had a knife, and yes elderly people are capable of killing, but it was an overreaction. They could have easily subdued her in a less violent manner. |
