Sunday, January 29, 2012 2:46:56 PM For the record: The man who was shot was named Steve Rodriguez. He was tasered, but it apparently didn't affect him and he ripped the tasers out. They have withheld the autopsy report so far, so there is no information on whether the tasers hit him or simply didn't penetrate his clothes, nor how many of the shots hit him. He was shot at five times by one officer, and five more times by a second officer. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. An investigation into the incident is taking place: Probe continues into fatal Monterey Park officer-involved shooting outside Carl's Jr. (1/26-27/'2012) |

Sunday, January 29, 2012 2:18:24 PM If I saw someone get shot 10 times like that I would have laughed too, but it would be because I was in shock and couldn't process such a disproportionate response. |

Sunday, January 29, 2012 7:11:18 AM i'm really glad i don't live in a part of the country where seeing a man get shot like 6 times at point blank range is such a common occurrence that the response is laughter. |

Thursday, January 26, 2012 8:48:06 AM Idk man. why couldnt they just let the dog go? He would not have been able to attack them with that crowbar. Still, I guess 5 shots when standing, then another 5 while on the ground is not excessive. |

Thursday, January 26, 2012 2:08:21 AM siding with the cops on this one. he didn't follow commands from cops, when taser failed he started to charge an officer with a weapon? i would have fired too. it was the best course of action at the time. |

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 12:36:57 PM Why didn't they use the dog? A dog bite is worth 10x what a taser is. Once that sucker starts shaking you, you'd wish you were dead.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 12:01:41 PM spanerbulb-"seems a bit excessive, surely one bullet would be sufficient." The Taser was not sufficient, one bullet may not have been sufficient. The rest of the clip is just insurance. Sure, let's just have new procedure: "If deadly force is require, fire one (1) round at the assailant. Stop, reassess the situation, procede in accordance to SOP. Example: Assailant is swinging blunt object at officer. Fire off one shot, stop and assess. Is the assailant down? Stop. Has the assailant buried the hatchet in your head? Proceed to fire one (1) round and reassess the situation." Anyone who thinks this is excessive needs to stay in their nice, comfortable, delusional little world. |

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 12:01:18 PM You know who is in the wrong here? The drating camera men. Even after he was shot they were still acting like they were watching a youtube video of a nutshot. |

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 8:53:33 AM Looked pretty justified to me And to all the people saying "awe the poor crazy man only had a pipe bender, the cops shouldn't have shot him!" newsflash: having your head caved in by a heavy piece of metal makes you just as dead as getting shot. Cope protected his partner. done As for the guys with the camera FUCK i hate wiggers! |

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 8:52:34 AM nettech98-" if you're someone that just needs to call people names, you can't even stop to think something through" Nope, it's just a sign that your statement was so damn stupid it didn't merit a rational response. But if you insist: This video shows a CLEAR example of a justified use of deadly force. They tried non-lethal methods. A taser was deployed, which uses up to 200,000 volts, and had absolutely no effect. The perp turns and attacks the officer. His intentions were not in question. The weapon he had was deadly. At that point, lethal force is not only authorized, but mandated. He was not knocked down after the first one or two shot. (not to mention, once lethal force is mandated, you shoot until they stop moving). I know what you 'saw in the video', and it bears no resemlbance to reality. But it does demonstrate your bias. The only satisfactory outcome for you would be for the cop to die. Like |

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 8:18:52 AM MeGrendel - I guess if you're someone that just needs to call people names, you can't even stop to think something through. There are so many examples (and those are only the ones that are made public), where once a single shot is fired, everyone just empties their guns. After the first one or two shots, this guy was knocked down and no longer the same threat. Instead of pausing, the cop kept firing after he was down. That's what we see in the video and I can't believe you think that's ok. |

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 7:52:42 AM I'm guessing they were rubber bullets. If the intention was to severely injure him I imagine they would have set the dog on him instead. |

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 6:22:03 AM @azhellboy82 Maybe you should watch the video more closely buddy. They did taze him, in the neck, and he barely flinched so I doubt mace would have been of much use. |
