Sunday, January 29, 2012 11:13:56 AM if someone obviously wants to pass you on the highway in the fast lane, the decent thing to do it move over and let them by. Sure the camera man was tailgating but the douche in front of him should of just gotten out of his way instead of being a huge dick about it |

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 12:51:34 PM Choose any point, say one of those street lamps on the side of the road as first car passes you should have enough time to say "Only a fool breaks the two second rule" by the time you go past the same point. Clearly tailgating! |

Monday, January 23, 2012 9:42:41 PM FYI - 2 seconds apart at 55 MPH = 161 feet or roughly 12 car lengths apart (assuming one car length = 13.5 feet). 3 seconds apart at 55 MPH = 242 feet or roughly 18 car lengths apart. So, tailgating? The math says HELL YES. |

Monday, January 23, 2012 9:34:41 PM @EgalM: "That looked pretty close to the two car lengths you should have between you." Uh... It's not "two car lengths", it's "two seconds" that you're supposed to have between you and the driver in front of you. And that's under ideal conditions. At night you should have at least 3 seconds between you and the car in front of you, and under rainy conditions you should have at least 4 seconds. (source) Watch the video. This guy was barely 1 second behind the guy in front of him. THAT *IS* TAILGATING. Worse yet, this was apparently under wet conditions, so it was terribly unsafe. |

Monday, January 23, 2012 4:54:15 PM The comments here are almost as stupid as that first driver. And why does the second car's door go flying forward, did he have his door open? Or did the crash rip it open? It's like they were going to go fight in the middle of the fast lane. Almost Darwin awards for all. |

Monday, January 23, 2012 2:51:03 PM "That looked pretty close to the two car lengths you should have between you." What!? Two car lengths? At 70ish MPH is like not even a quater of a second braking time. |

Monday, January 23, 2012 10:21:53 AM @qualityjay--he wasn't on the shoulder, he was in lane, that is why the 18wheelers were honking. it was just where two hiways merge, no emergency lane. @atl1en...i agree...i wouldn't call that tailgating at all!! |

Monday, January 23, 2012 7:50:39 AM Damn it! I can't see this video. This is one i'd watch coz I always wondered what my friends were thinking when they would slam on the breaks to "teach the tailgater a lesson". |

Monday, January 23, 2012 7:16:53 AM "Ehhh... I balem the third car for trying to drive on the shoulder of the road. " Piperquin: I'm guessing you don't drive yet. If he had stayed in the left lane it would have been a MUCH more horrible crash. He used the shoulder for what it is for: emergencies. |

Monday, January 23, 2012 6:06:01 AM @Musoko42 Never drive in Las Vegas if you think THAT'S bad driving. I used to think Tucson, AZ was full of bad drivers... Then I moved here. Whole new level... Grand Theft Auto is like pre-school. Seriously, if you can't handle it, stay off the roads near any major city. Not an excuse for horrible city drivers, just a disclaimer. Also, if you brake on a highway like that guy, expect this. |

Monday, January 23, 2012 3:52:03 AM Well, the idiot in the front was going slow in the far right lane. But, you don't play games...especially on the highway.

Monday, January 23, 2012 3:17:10 AM That's not tailgating... he was a bit close, but not tailgating by any means, aside when the car kept braking. |

Monday, January 23, 2012 2:05:50 AM @Musko42: Totally agree with you. The second guy was barely two car lengths behind the first guy, which is unsafe at those speeds. Still, stupid place to confront the guy about it, as the results demonstrated. Also, good description. The ending caught me totally off guard. <thumbs up> |

Monday, January 23, 2012 1:32:59 AM @EvilBigHead "That's not tailgating. I follow much closer." If you have to emergency brake to react to the car in front of you braking (as the second driver here had to, judging from the sound of the brakes and the sharpness of the car's stopping), then yes, you're tailgating. You need to be leaving enough room to be able to come to a safe and controlled stop if the car in front of you slams on their brakes. And if you honestly do follow much closer than that (at that speed), then you're an accident waiting to happen. 1st driver at fault for braking without cause, and then stopping without cause. 2nd driver at fault for tailgating. 3rd driver at fault for not reacting to the stopped cars and...well...plain old crashing. |

Monday, January 23, 2012 12:19:48 AM You should have about 2 seconds between your car and the car in front of you. |

Sunday, January 22, 2012 11:58:52 PM The idiot stopped on the freeway, it's his dumbass fault. If I was guy in 2nd car I probably would have pulled his ass out of his car and beat him. |

Sunday, January 22, 2012 11:26:01 PM Piperquinn, you said "Ehhh... I balem the third car for trying to drive on the shoulder of the road. Plus, don't drive in the left lane if you can't handle going over the speed limit." The third car swerved into the shoulder because they were seemingly driving the speed limit (65-75) when suddenly they saw that their lane was completely obstructed. If they couldn't stop fast enough (and if you notice, the pavement looks wet, which makes it difficult to brake hard without skidding), it's reasonable that they would have swerved into the breakdown lane to avoid ramming into the cars. It happened to me on the highway once, and I wasn't the only person forced to swerve onto the median strip to avoid rear-ending other cars who had to stop. In my case, it would have been a multi-car pileup if me and several other cars involved hadn't gotten off the road and out of the way. |

Sunday, January 22, 2012 9:46:08 PM if the first car where merely stopped, it would be the third car's fault, however the first car was parked, and since he was not in a legal parking zone it is his fault |
