There is no way I'm participating in this. It's completely idiotic. By holding off to buy things until April or buying them early in late February, the media will get the same amount of money as they would have before. Boycotts never work for a reason, and whoever thought this up obviously never thought to do their research. Not to mention, people should stop letting posts from 4Chan get around the rest of the web. Seriously.

"I don't do this stuff anyways, illegal or legal."

Hey look another IGNORANT consumer. You do realize that by simply coming to this site, seeing this post, and responding in kind, you have done ALL the things in the list.

You have downloaded, you have uploaded, you have shared.

People seriously need to get off of the goddamn fair weather bullshhit and look around. Your ignorance is the true crime.

I don't pay money for that stuff already. I'm too broke to see movies and buy DVDs all the time.

@ xCYBERDYNEx

Because I use magic swear words, that's how.

Anywhore... I will continue to purchase good product. I will continue to shun bad product. I will continue to not pirate either, but rather find a legal method of testing if necessary (how many games have free demos available anymore? And with systems like Gamefly and Netflix in place, there's absolutely no good way to rationalize piracy using the "try before I buy" excuse. If they don't have what you want... Make some friends, loser).

Hey, guess what? That policy covers 3 bases at once! I get good games that I want, like Elder Scrolls, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect, I avoid bad games like Dragon Age II and tell the industry that I have higher standards if they want me to buy, AND I avoid proving their point with piracy.

Who knew that such a simple plan could be so effective? Too bad most people are too stupid to follow it.

Ya, doing one of the few things capable of bringing big media to their senses is totally less important than Mass Effect 3.

Congratulations, you are the ideal consumer American sheep.

You think this'll bring them to their senses?

Are you seriously THAT retarded?

No, they'll turn it right back against us and use it as proof of people's support of piracy. If this forum ALONE is proof enough, people won't stop pirating. Hell, it'll probably get worse because morons will PIRATE ME3, since they couldn't buy it.

And the ESA will take that to Congress and say "We lost a bunch of money, but people are pirating the game. See what happens when you don't do anything to prevent this?"

I'm already effectively boycotting nearly the entire industry. I don't care for movies much(most of them suck donkey balls anyway). I neither go to the theater(even if it's a good one theres always some ass wipe ruining the movie ), nor do I buy or rent movies. I also have enough game content to last for quite a long while. Only time I buy more is on a steam mega sale. I don't even watch tv all that much. I just dick around on the internet when i'm not out doing something else that's fun.
So, I guess, yeah, technically i'll be participating in the black out, but in reality it's just business as usual for me.

How about I buy from small press publishers at locally owned bookstores, buy indie band's music directly from them, and watch indie movies at the indie theater? How about I do that anyway and keep doing it?

Yeah this will show those struggling record stores and movie theaters just how little we care of them!

yes, lets duck the hard working people who just happen to sell those EVIL goods, when store owners fire their employees because they are not selling enough, that will teach those multibillion companies whos the real idiot

@Lillim yes boycotts and the such do work. But this is a problem of targets, want to complain about it and protest go ahead lobby your senator lobby your house of representative go for it i encourage you to.

When it's a single company boycott boycotts often work because you switch your spending to another rival company. Now it's suggested to boycott anything to do with entertainment and copyright it will damage and already struggling retail sector. That's how boycott's work depriving them of money. But to get at some record and moving producers you're going to cause loads of low minimum wage store workers to face redundancy as companies fail doesn't seem smart and it will have a knock on effect on everything else on the economy. Yet as stated earlier the record and movie companies are the ones who can afford to wait it out for a month. So yes do it you guys are sooooo smart

They haven't lobbied to do anything to me. I understand the concern about SOPA. It's a bad law. But I will continue to pay for the entertainment that I want to buy. I will continue to not buy the entertainment that I dislike. Buying what you want, when you want, does not make you a sheep. Putting off buying something because some internet campaign is telling you what to do is actually the more sheep-like behavior.

This is as dumb as those emails telling people to hold off on buying gas for 1 day. It doesn't make any difference whatsover if you put it off. The only result is a glut of people buying it once they're "allowed to" again. It has no effect on the profits of these companies other than giving them 1 bad quarter followed by 1 great quarter.

This has gone on long enough. I'm getting so sick of the anti-sopa crowd trying to control my media use that I'm actually thinking of donating to the campaigns of it's supporters.

Concerning Mass Effect 3,

While I haven't gone and researched any profit/time frame/technicalities, how about preordering Mass Effect 3 at a Gamestop, paying in full before March hits, then just picking it up when it comes out?

US Citizen for those who would split hairs about using the term American.
Sadly, they know you will go out and buy Mass Effect regardless of what they lobby to do to you. I wouldn't be surprised if some folks would pay these companies to crap down their throats so long as they title it as Ass Effect 4 or Batman: Arkham Sh*tty.

It is unreasonable to do this.

Personally, I'll continue to support groups against SOPA (GOG.com and valve for example), whilst not others (I will not be buying ME3 because of EA's membership in the ESA who support SOPA.)

Pay attention, and all will be fine (and yes, I know Steam and GOG are effectively distributors, you'd have to check the individual games).

Can someone please explain how you can hurt the media companies by not downloading their stuff illegally?

Somehow, I knew Ollie would be the kind of dipshit that just wouldn't get it.

So for all you retards out there that don't quite understand why you shouldn't pirate either:

By downloading their shit, you're just proving to them that you can't stand living without it.

If you can't live without it, you're proving that you're under their control, whether you're smart enough to realize it or not.

And along the way, you're proving their point that piracy is what's ruining their profits, which only makes the case for SOPA and PIPA even stronger.

GROW A BRAIN, YOU FUCKTARDS.
