Ha! "Removing someone's clothing in the Islamic culture is just not acceptable... What? They beat her? Kicked her in the face? Yes well...they removed her clothing, that is despicable."

Oh, yeah. This happens in Israel all the time—NOT. I know, let's help the Muslim Brotherhood gain power in the MIddle East. What could possibly go wrong?

"Fringe?"

You missed my context gerry. I was suggesting the entirety of what I said would be something Baal would try to convince us of, even though he lives in a "western" city that happens to have a lot of mosques.

"Its not that Muslims are in the middle ages"

Around the corner is a store run by an Iraqi christian who fled to the US rather than die or convert. Even he says his people in Iraq live in a knife culture and they "do not understand peace or democracy or compromise Only force, a hard fist. It's all they have ever known." His own words describing his own country.

I've never been so I'll take his word for it.

Its not that Muslims are in the middle ages. Its the fact that Muslim nations as a whole are still a Tribal affair. Too much religion, not enough politics (see what i did there?).

Im not suggesting they imitate "Western" politics, but some form of comittee where Politics takes the head, while religion is still involved. Perhaps a little more than here in the US, but much less of a presence than they currently have. Once you can get the tribes to give up old hates, old scores, religious law can be changed, and some things need to change.

It is hard for us Americans to understand the concept of tribal wars without using some of our inner city "tribes". Or even, think of each of our states as a territory, each state trying to over throw the other, constantly. The only thing that keeps peace is religion and customs, which both break down very quickly.

The worst that happened to most OWS protesters was pepper spray.

"these terrible acts are merely fringe events of arab culture"

Fringe? Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Afganistan, Egypt, Lybia, Syria . . . etcetera ad naseum.

Sound more like the majority than a 'fringe element'.

"But it's clear none of the muslim run countries can be included in the civilized world."

Que Baal chiming in with the UAE.
With a picture of a Christmas tree in Dubai no less, which somehow proves he lives in a Muslim city and these terrible acts are merely fringe events of arab culture.

"Removing somebodies clothing is just not acceptable"

Beating them is okay.
Jumping up and stomping on her rib cage - no problem.
But Alah forbid you get a peek at her Victorias Secret bra.

Egypt used to be the "good" muslim country. Women could pursue careers and educations. But it's clear none of the muslim run countries can be included in the civilized world. They're still living in the middle ages.

"I don't have a tv, and don't really follow the news.. But i was under the distinct impression that Egypt already resolved this stuff months ago ??"

Except the emergency power that the military took has not been handed down yet...

I gotta say, im very skeptical about the nature of this video.

On one hand, I see security forces ravaging two people.

On the other hand, I see thugs that have been given/or stole security uniforms and the video may have actually been made by the rebellion. the woman has not complained, has not filed charges, still takes place in the protests, and the dude stomping her was not wearing full military garb.

Ive also seen some pretty disturbing scenes the past 10 years, but havent seen security forces intentionally trying to insult the woman by showing her midriff. This would be against everything they believe.

To me this isnt as cut-and-dry as the NKorea Alligator tears video.
