Actually vehicle control becomes muscle memory fairly fast. I've had to quickly put my vehicle in to reverse in a manual to avoid an accident a couple of times.
That isn't to say I blame the guy for fuding up in the heat of the moment. |

People, don't forget that if you'd be in such a situation, you wouldn't be able to think clearly and put it in reverse. You'd just sit there all frozen too, since working the clutch and putting a car in reverse isn't quite a human reflex. |

You can hear the engine rev. It sounds like he tried to get into reverse but ended up in neutral instead. |

Now I'm not Bobby Unser or anything, but I believe I might've been able to shove that car into reverse and cut away from the truck.

These guys are lucky those truck drivers knew what they were doing (the one who swerved and the one they were trying to pass) or they'd be deadmeat! |

Sure, it might have only been a half second of reverse, but that can make all the difference. |
