Saturday, December 17, 2011 12:38:03 PM wtfrock's posted link is more interesting because it details the practical applications of this technology and how the camera actually works. |

Saturday, December 17, 2011 10:57:48 AM the camera does not have a 1 trillionth of a second shutter speed. It takes many photos shot over hours to combine into something that mimics a fast camera, they sure fooled you idiots . . . |

Saturday, December 17, 2011 8:37:32 AM It is NOT the speed of light. 3.0 x 10^8 meters/second = speed of light 1 x 10^12 exposures/second = speed of camera Is the camera fast? Damn fast. Does it come close to the speed of light? No, no it doesn't. Is the video GOD AWFUL BORING? Oh yes. |

So if I'm not mistaken... this camera and footage is faster than the speed of light? How is that even possible? Incredible!! |

Friday, December 16, 2011 11:08:02 PM And it only took several minutes to do it! the video is captured over several minutes by repeated and periodic sampling.

Friday, December 16, 2011 5:20:06 PM for all of you that dont know, that is a beam of light captured at over a trillion frames per second. its the slowest slowmo cam to date. the fact that you can actually see the beam of light move like that is increadable. |

Friday, December 16, 2011 4:06:03 PM 3:17 of my life, gone After about :20 I jumped ahead a couple of times and saw that it was all the same. I spared myself at least 2 minutes of crap that would put me into a coma instead of curing my boredom. |

Friday, December 16, 2011 1:24:26 PM It would have been better if instead of stupid music they had a voice-over explaining the what and the how. |

Friday, December 16, 2011 1:06:51 PM @ilikelogic ummm there were experiments with gases that can slow light to a stop, but all it's really doing is the gas molecules catch and release the light trillions of times, this video isn;t an accurate measurement of light speed, because as soon as it starts you can see the light, which means it traveled through the container, and to the camera before it even began moving down the bottle. pretty sure the bottle has that gas, i cant remember the name. besides, why would students at MIT use a coke bottle? |

Friday, December 16, 2011 11:51:16 AM To all haters: How about reading or listening or watching the news? (Hint: MIT captures light (speed of light!!) on film) |

Friday, December 16, 2011 10:30:55 AM Ok before this thing gets down voted to hell, I think this post is related to this article. MIT creates imaging system that captures images at one trillion frames per second |

Friday, December 16, 2011 10:28:46 AM IT IS: composite film of photons going through a bottle of liquid (water I think) because light (photons) slows down in dense material. It's not ONE photon though, it hundreds of fuilmings of them shooting through the water, combined to make an image. |

Friday, December 16, 2011 10:25:49 AM "I thought this was awesome. This is a big step for science!" What the fvuck are you talking about? Its a laser light, passing through plastic in front of a slo mo camera. WHere, in any of that, is a step? Random people just blurting out random poo, kinda like half the picture posts on this site now. |
