People like him are the reason America was founded in the first place. Insert string of nasty words here, please. It absolutely disgusts me that the political candidates of today purposely manipulate our own country's foundation. And I mean ALL politicians, not just Republicans. They're all nasty.

Just because others don't function on the same rigid "God the Father" value system you do, doesn't mean they're bereft of ethics.

And really, despite the party pablum given to Reps the things that made America great were it's respect for Reason and Human Rights, not because people went to church every Sunday.

Cajun when you say populist I think of mainly populist economics, like what the Occupiers want. I think this is a word that folks on different ends of the political spectrum use differently and has different meanings for the two of us. Also, I would never use the term "Statist."

Crakr, did I not already preemptively mention congresscritters sleeping with one another? And as for Immoral people being reelected, you need to look at your own party, who still has Sen. David Vitter, he of the DC. Madam scandal (remember the pics of him in the fetish diapers)?
But of course, all a Rep. official has to do is do a tearful apology to his base, say he repents and has found Jesus and all is forgiven.

Aww yes those dirty filthy Romans with their laxed stance on sexual deparvity, narcotics, and alcohol. Then there's those great contributions to the worlds of math and science, conquest of Europe and their 600 year long existence.

I don't think the good 'ol USA will even reach its tricentenial unless its citizens get their heads on straight.

You mention 'Statism' as if it's always a bad thing

No 5h17 dude, it IS a bad thing. But let's not forget, the War on Drugs was started by Nixon (Republican), and it was Bush Jr. (Republican) who came up with the PATRIOT Act and DHS.

As for your "Moral Values" I can easily point to governments that would allow things we typically wouldn't. Even if I had to go as far back as Ancient Rome my point would STILL be valid.

Finally I wouldn't be calling it the Gay Old Party if they weren't so keen on curtailing consensual behavoir. I don't like the Dummocrats for promoting fiscal liberalism, but even Republicans have a decent share of fiscal liberals (Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, and Mitt Romney, Bush Jr. just to name a few). At least the Dems have moved away from their old white supremacy platform.

statist policies designed to curtail consensual activities.

You mention 'Statism' as if it's always a bad thing, but you neglect to mention that the most active 'statist' we've had as president is Barrack Obama, promoting his far left liberalism.

"Moral Values" have made this country great and kept it from sliding into the degradation that other countries are plagued with.

And by the way, GOP stands for Grand Old Party. I'm sure you knew that, but your attempt at humor there was rather droll.

Lastly as QueenZira AND Gerry1of1 point out this behavoir of using "moral values" to promote statist policies is most prevalent within the Gay Old Party.

@QueenZira

Perhaps I don't fully understand your point.
Nevertheless I'm for a small government that actually stays out of your way as opposed to being small enough to "fit in your bedroom".

Regardless of how our politicians "monitor" themselves. I do believe Me and QueenZira have a point which is that "morals" and "virtues" have been used to instate statist policies designed to curtail consensual activities. Ultimately such policies generally don't work and only helps degrade morality and personal responsibility.

Musuko: It's much more prevalent in the democrat party, the biggest difference is republicans won't re-elect them like democrats often do.

"That's just it, democrats seem perfectly fine voting for the immoral and non-virtuous, as long as they're liberal."

Splice in the words "Republicans" and "conservative" and this is just as applicable.

Shady politicians and people willing to vote for them feature in the entire political spectrum, not just in the camp of your enemy.

Zira & Cajun: That's just it, democrats seem perfectly fine voting for the immoral and non-virtuous, as long as they're liberal.

Charley Rangel, Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, Anthony Weiner, Eric Massa, Patrick Kennedy, Alcee Hastings, Gregory Meeks, John Murtha, Jesse Jackson Jr., Rod Blagojevich, Bill Clinton, John Edwards and the list goes on and on, all are democrats, all were unethical and most got re-elected anyway.

Why ? One can only be left to assume that morality and ethics are not important factors to being a good democrat.

It's really sad that their constituents don't/didn't care in most cases.

"You democrats don't have any leg to stand on when it comes to 'virtue or morals', so don't even go there."

But the Democratic party doesn't claim to be the Family Values Party...Republicans do. That's why it's funny when Republitards get caught.

I'm a repubican and I approve this post.

Hell you know another phrase doesn't appear in the constitution? "So help me God"
Yet every President since FDR has used it when taking the Oath of Office, and there's always some sector of society that's going to be upset if it isn't spoken.

No it does not, otherwise the missionaries that knock on your door on Saturday mornings would be put in jail for breaking the law.

That is not what I meant, no one should be forced to acknowledge God whenever they carry legal tender, or testify in court.

And herein lies a key difference between the parties Crakr, Reps have intentionally gone out of their way to become the Biblely Judeoxian "family values" God's Own Party crowd (for rightwinger's only, Liberal xians need not apply). And they do it to so well that their love of "small government" even extends to the Bedroom (government small enough to fit in your Bedroom).

Dems have not become the party of conservative religion, instead questions Dems usually ask about religion and public life revolve around how best to protect religious minorities, and how best to respect religious diversity.

Now aside from all the sexual misconduct we know both types do on a regular basis, instead consider that when you're a Rep. who's made their career by asserting that your morals + values are so vastly superior to everyone else's, when you fk up you fk up grandly, like fireworks on the 4th of July.

And with Newt Gingrich leading republican polls proves republicans don't care about virtue or morals anymore.

And "freedom of" means slamming the door in their face is also legal.

It comes down to Rick Perry trying to get out of the gutter by playing the religion card. His failure at it will ultimately weaken this card in the future.
And with Newt Gingrich leading republican polls proves republicans don't care about virtue or morals anymore.
