Friday, December 09, 2011 6:12:45 AM so it's cool when a human does it, but when an inkjet or a dot matrix in this case does it - not so great? It's extraordinary that he was able to repeat a motion 3.2 million-or-so times, but the artistic feat is not only that; he was able to take the likeness of his father and transfer it to the medium used. That's art, and it's something that - so far - machines cannot do. |

Thursday, December 08, 2011 8:18:30 AM "just skillful use of some of techniques developed since renaissance." Thats what art is numbnuts. What you think every artist has to hold their medium differently every time!!?!?!? Art is as much learned as it is experimented. Guess what, we have things that can type for us too while we use our fingers, yet we still do something so archaic as TALKING!!! Just because one artist is great in one way doesnt mean ALL artists have to follow that. in the vain of you saying it isnt that good, well then, duplicate it. If you can do better, cool, if not, then where the hell do you get off judging what is and is not good. Maybe you should stop riding on the fair weather bandwagon and think for yourself.

Thursday, December 08, 2011 5:00:52 AM @pigsnout5: He comments on his video (on Vimeo) on this: "[I]t's not exact, but very very close to the real number. i multiply speed of plotting (how many dots i put down per 10 seconds) with the number of hours i work on each section." |

Wednesday, December 07, 2011 1:16:18 PM heavypred-"hyperrealism is terrible and have no point in modern art since you have the photography that can do it for humans since 1840's in the same manner he did it there" If you consider it to have no point, it just demonstrates that you missed the point. Yes, there is oftern many ways to accomplish something. The 'easy' way is not always the best, and sometimes not the desired way. In this case, a photograph would not have accomplished the same texture. Plus, the effort behind it is what makes it unique. |

Wednesday, December 07, 2011 1:12:24 PM Okay, one type of Pen & Ink (Stippling, similar to pointallism, but pintallism is with paint. The other type is Cross-hatch). I'd have to say his technique is great (nice texture), but I didn't care for the composition (personal choice). Also, I'd woulda spent a little more money and gotten a very nice rapidograph, as I've never liked the disposable type. |
