Tuesday, December 06, 2011 3:21:44 PM Are the risks worth it? You'd have to ask Michael Dunlop (featured in the video). His Dad was killed motorbike racing. I guess his answer would be yes. Michael Dunlop himself has crashed at the TT. As for the guy flying through the air on the mountain stretch (where they can be pushing 170mph), it was a chap called Conor Cummins last year (2010). He got a broken limb but was back racing this year. |

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 2:58:06 PM @marcus - even if the law is still the same with regard to speed limits as when I was there, it's not true that there are no speed limits. There are lots of local ones.... just no national speed limit set - which means if no other local speed limit is in force in a zone, then there is no limit for that section of road.

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 2:50:54 PM I was working there one year when the TT was on - a fantastic atmosphere all week, however it was marred by two deaths of professional riders. A lot of the injuries that year happened on 'Mad Sunday' when they traditionally open the course to casual riders, quite a few of whom stop off every couple of laps for a beer. I think the law has changed since I was last there, about 7 years ago but at the time there wasn't a national speed limit set, so on the country roads outside of Douglas you could go as fast as you wanted as long as you weren't driving dangerously with it. |

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 2:50:03 PM The reason they are allowed to go so fast is because there's no speed limits at all on the Isle of Man. |

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 2:34:01 PM 1: This brings back memories of the Sega Dreamcast game Manx TT Superbike, which took place on this very course. 2: The Isle of Man three legged crest is badass. 3: The speed + surface area of the tires on the road in the corners is insane. |

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 2:23:16 PM In the last 100 years or so of this there's been 237 deaths... or so Wikipedia tells me. When you watch this video you can see why. |
