Wednesday, December 07, 2011 6:55:50 AM Is it worth it to me were I a racer? No. Worth it to them? Obviously is. Worth it to the fans? Definitely. They are amazing to watch. I'm not brave enough or skilled enough on a bike to even dream of this. |

Wednesday, December 07, 2011 6:54:41 AM Looks like even some of the spectator areas are dangerous. |

Wednesday, December 07, 2011 6:28:13 AM Isle of Man, or basically any other TT done on regular roads, are some of the most epic events on the planet. They celebrate the limits a man can push himself. I have to respect anyone that can push themselves this far, and keep themselves together. |

Wednesday, December 07, 2011 4:47:15 AM I live on the Isle of Man. It is insane, it is never "will anyone die?" its "how many?" there is always deaths during the two weeks of TT. It is ridiculous. My step dad rode in the Manx Grand Prix but he would never go these kinds of speeds on a road race. Its ridiculous. |

Wednesday, December 07, 2011 4:14:50 AM If everyone thinks these guys are nuts there are also guys who race the course in sidecar bikes, which looks about just as insane. |

Wednesday, December 07, 2011 4:07:05 AM One of my friend calls me an 'organ donnor', but i would never race like this... This looks stupidly dangerous... or dangerously stupid. When you ride a bike, you can't influence 80% of things that could happen to you. Why risk it with this? |

Wednesday, December 07, 2011 3:34:56 AM Of course it is dangerous, motorcycle racing is exactly that! Bear this in mind though: More people die on European ski slopes every year than have been killed at the IOM TT races since they started. (approximately 2000 die annually on UK roads) |

Wednesday, December 07, 2011 1:36:08 AM @davymid - I wonder how many people die in normal car accidents every day.... Sure it's risky, but if that is what makes their life worth living, it's their choice. |

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 9:04:54 PM Ain't worth the risk if your on the sidelines when man and bike become projectile weapons. I do have to say though that when I was a body remover for the coroners office, motor cycle accidents were the messiest. |

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 5:59:36 PM If I ever need an organ transplant, I'll head over to the Isle of Man and be waiting in the bleachers. |

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 4:39:35 PM I live near Guy Martin. He's the dogs danglies. In the 90's I actually raced the Mountain Section on Mad Sunday on a CBR600 jelly-mould.

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 4:21:38 PM In the last 100 years or so of this there's been 237 deaths... or so Wikipedia tells me. When you watch this video you can see why. Other sources are lower. Maybe they're only counting competitors and Wikipedia is counting casual riders as well. Or maybe Wikipedia is just wrong - there isn't a citation for the 237 figure. 7 died this year, so 237 is believable. They're averaging ~125mph on normal roads that aren't very straight or flat. That's far from safe. It's the modern equivalent of ancient Roman chariot racing, only with more risk and much lower prize money. Worth it for me? No. Worth it for the competitors? Looks that way, since none of them have to do it. |

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 3:52:52 PM What wouldn't be worth it to me would be seeing it in person. You get a mirco-fraction of a second to try and keep your head moving with the racer you can't identify as they speed past, and hope they don't loose control, and take you out instead of the safety barrier! Note, this is just FOR ME, and I have nothing against people who see value in going to these things. |

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 3:37:35 PM @marcus: The reason they are allowed to go that fast is because those roads are closed down specifically for that race. There are safety precautions put in place for the viewers, and the racers have years of experience under their belts. NOT because of the speed limits. |
