Saturday, December 03, 2011 6:27:08 PM i'm sorry, but that's just stupid. in a perfect world it looks good in cartoons, but really. yes, they will pocket the money. no people won't go where it's cheaper, they will keep the price the same and tell people you should spend more because we serve quality and they don't. the poor - which makes up so much of the country don't pay the tax, so the they are exempt- so no money there. industry, many large ones don't pay anything either, i doubt they will pay the 9%. small commercial couldn't afford that much. and other's can't afford 9% on anything. it was bad enough they raised it to 7%. don't see how it's going to get jobs either. and where is the money for the government? they take all those cuts to remove the debt they made. what about the wars we fight? all the money we give out? who is paying that? many will profit, but not the consumer, they lose the most since the tax went up. |

Friday, December 02, 2011 10:20:55 AM Nice little cartoon. Completely wrong, but a nice cartoon nonetheless. |

Thursday, December 01, 2011 10:58:31 AM I'd certainly like to see a much simplified tax system, the tax loopholes corporations get now means they virtually pay nothing, Like GE. But adding a VAT and a national sales tax is mainly going to hurt low income people the worst and that's really not fair. Too simple is bad, too complicated is worse, there needs to be a fair and viable medium. |

Thursday, December 01, 2011 7:51:56 AM doesn't matter if it would work or not, when something has been in play so long in a country so young, its not gonna change. |

Thursday, December 01, 2011 4:31:13 AM We left England because of the unreasonable taxes imposed by the King (among other things). Over the last 70 years the things government has imposed taxes on has increased exponentially. We need to removal all taxes except for sales tax and reduce spending. That is the most simple and fair way to do it. The more you spend, the more taxes you pay..simple and efficient and the government needs to find a way to live within its own means...kind of like the way EVERY household has to do. |

Thursday, December 01, 2011 3:58:08 AM *cough*bullpoo*cough* They just need to look at Canada for this, if they're trying to say that it will drive the prices down. When GST was initiated, it dissolved the VAT (where each time a product passed through processing, it was taxed). Problem was, when the VAT was removed, every supplier and distributor thought, "I'll lower my prices when my competitors do...till then, I'll enjoy this extra 5% increase in profit). Same thing when HST was introduced. HST dissolved PST (provincial sales) and GST (goods and services) and made a homogenized tax. Before, things could be PST exempt, but not HST exempt. Business didn't have to pay PST on products, only GST. Now, items for resale are HST exempt, thus saving businesses another 5%...which they said "I'll drop my prices when the other guy does". |

Wednesday, November 30, 2011 8:15:05 PM I know the video mostly is focusing on taxes that affect businesses. However, the idea of a flat income tax is simply idiotic. The reason for a progressive tax is that it accounts for the effect on quality of life better than a flat tax. So, say for example the flat tax is 20%, since this is a more reasonable number. That would mean that if a person is making $1,000,000/year, they would have $800,000 after taxes. Their quality of life changes little to none. For someone making $100,000/year, they would have $80,000 after taxes. This would make a marked difference in terms of quality of life, but it's not an unreasonable difference to accept. Now, for someone making $10,000/year, they would have $8,000 after taxes. This makes a HUGE difference on their quality of life. If they're paying $500/month for rent, that leaves only $2000/year for food, clothing, transportation, repairs, health costs, etc. |
