Depends on how you define art. Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance) in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect. I would say by that definition, this is certainly art. The uncanny part is that this is NOT the first time this has been done, and the Japanese did not do it first. A guy does non-colorful sand as a physics test, the higher the frequency of the pitch, the more intricate the patterns the sand creates. If that doesn't hint to you of the beauty that is our universe, you don't deserve to live. |

Really cool. Also, it's art. It required the skills and creativity of the person who made it. To declare that something is not art takes no effort, to make something that is art does. Also, this is art:
 It's art because the person making it intended it to be. You can't deny that it isn't art, but you can decide for yourself if it's worth anything as art.
tl;dr: It doesn't matter what you think art is, so STFU |

Cool, but it would have been nice if the camera had just zoomed in ONCE near the beginning to show us the movement of the grains, then zoomed the hell back out, stayed there, and let us actually see the forms and patterns taking shape. |
