Monday, November 21, 2011 8:06:50 AM @Lindsy1979, so it'd be OK is protesters could pepper spray police if the police were in violation of a law or statute? Or would that be considered assault? |

Monday, November 21, 2011 7:14:29 AM Ok... Chinchilla... I am a cop an I am not saying that pepper spray is fun. In my training we had to get sprayed 3 separate times. Yes it SUCKS but its a hell of a lot better than getting your legs broken. So I call BS on your cop friend because I am a 32 yr old female and ok with it. Again I HATE pepper spray and MOST COPS way over abuse their power and aggression I know but just commenting on your friends break legs over spray comment. Again.. If I am a 32 yr old female with NO MMA training and can handle it.. your friend is a pussy.. or maybe you just quoted him wrong :) No worries :)P.S. Pepper spray is NOT police brutality. Yes many cops jump the gun and use it when they shouldn't but police brutality it is not. I don't like it and never use mine but that my choice. Would you rather they hit and punch people? |

Monday, November 21, 2011 6:57:38 AM Huh. Who knew that far-leftwing lunatics were also police-state fascists? Oh yeah, that would be anyone with a brain. What's that? You don't think the chancellor of UC DAVIS is a far-left Socialist lunatic just like 90%+ of university presidents and chancellors? You thought she was a conservative Republican? Right, keep your head in the sand. This is Obama's America. Unemployment lines and pepper spray. |

Monday, November 21, 2011 6:36:05 AM A friend of mine is a cop. He said that as part of his training, he had to be pepper sprayed in the face. He said it's the most extreme pain he's ever experienced. He told me he'd prefer to have both his legs broken than to experience that again. This is a guy who does MMA training and is no pussy. Remember that when you see these civilians getting pepper sprayed. It's police brutality. End of story. |

Monday, November 21, 2011 5:56:16 AM One quick addendum to my previous post - Read multiple news sources. If you watch Fox News, watch MSNBC as well (and vice-versa). Try to understand the different angles and you'll be better-informed, smarter, and poised to make meaningful and balanced decisions based on the world around you. Ignorance and blind bigotry just lowers the bar for society and makes events like this happen ad-infinitum. Sorry for the big words -- now, back to your scheduled entertainment. |

Monday, November 21, 2011 5:44:45 AM I think the point being made about the pepper spray is more about excessive force than anything. There is absolutely no reason these protesters couldn't have been handcuffed and hauled off to jail rather than spraying them. She did a horrible job of controlling the situation and it shows her poor decision making capabilities. As chancellor of UC - Davis, the students and general public deserve a more rational train of thought than "If they won't move, pepper spray the draters." These students were taking part in the OWS movement, which, in basic terms, is exactly against these abuses of power by folks that would rather shut them up than listen to the discontent citizenry. Follow the news, people. |

Monday, November 21, 2011 5:37:00 AM @Rawrg Yea. It's just pepper sprayed. Pepper spray is used to help detain unruly criminals. Not punish innocent civilians. If you think that was justified, fine, you can give up your own rights and live in a police state. But not me. Police are only supposed to detain to maintain order. They are NOT to punish. Educate yourself. Do research. Fight the power. F/uck the system. |

Monday, November 21, 2011 5:15:43 AM I have NO problem with people protesting. The difference here is that people are blocking the path and refused to move, probably after being asked several times. And to all you people citing the constitution: Freedom of speech does not entitle people to block the roads/sidewalks and harass everyone else. It entitles them to speak their minds about the government and to assemble and discuss issues without fear of prosecution for that reason. That doesn't mean assemble wherever the hell you want. It means you CAN assemble. If the police ask you to clear a public thoroughfare then it's well within the law for them to use force upon refusal. It's just pepper spray people. Every police officer there had to get sprayed to legally carry it. They weren't using bullets, and they weren't beating the protesters down. I don't feel any emotion towards these people, but I'm tired of people ragging on the cops for doing their jobs. |

Monday, November 21, 2011 4:38:12 AM Used this site for ages, just now created a profile for the sake of all of the hurpers and derpers saying "they had it coming, they shouldn't have been protesting". We would have NOTHING if people hadn't protested, we would still be surfs (slaves) serving our feudal lords living in mud huts if people hadn't fought so we could have a greater share. Whether you agree with the protests point or not if you support this brutality you are an idiot. The people in charge have not given us concessions out of the goodness of their hearts, but because throughout the generations, since the magna carta, people have fought tooth and nail for them. Read a book. |
