Anyone who says the male peacock's feathers and a Ferrari are "exactly the same" have never experienced the handling of peacock feathers. It sucks. No fun at all. And it's zero to sixty is horrible. |

Our instincts for survival of the species are no longer just barely satisfied like in most other animals, but are met and even highly exceeded, its caused us a lot of problems as a species, and for the planet itself. Oh, and ofc problems for a lot of the other species too, since so many of them are dying out nowdays.
We overindulge in those instincts, and our species/planet is going to die eventually, due to that, if it doesnt change.
We cant really stop overindulging in them either, since by definition, as instincts, they are hardwired into the species.
So the question is, are we going to overcome them, are they going to be replaced by new instincts, or are they going to be the end of humanity? |

There is no question that mankind is still driven by basic natural instincts for survival of the species, just like other species are.
We like the taste of fatty foods or sugar, because they are both high in calories, and our body needs calories to survive. Like every animal, our instinct tells us to stock up on calories, and make sure we dont die of hunger.
But the real question here is:
Is mankind as a species going to be able to evolve past its instincts, or are they going to destroy us?
Since the industrial revolution, we have been able to produce much more than is normally available in nature. It seems our instincts are still adapted to someone living in the forest, instead of someone living in "civilization". And now they are driving us to our doom.
Wars are paid for by diamonds for example, which is pretty much the equivalent to a a rooster's tail Doesnt that just seem crazy if you think about it? |

If you look into psychology you will be surprised how little of what we do is conscious and deliberate compared to what is subconscious and innate. That doesn't mean we can't triumph over our nature. That's why discipline and logic are so important. |

Well yeah. As has already been pointed out, sex sells. You could add it's a dog eat dog world etc. The question the Reason guys have to answer is that does "reason" alone have the ability to moderate human behavioral excess. I would put forth that Alan Greenspan found out the hard way that it does not. |

People like you are the reason Psychology and similar "sciences" have a bad name.
Did you watch the interview? Every time he makes a claim he backs it up with facts. You may disaggree with his conclusions, but why? What facts do you offer to support your conclusion? You quite literally dismiss everything he says, without addressing any claim he made, based solely upon your personal disdain for his area of research.
If that's the kind of "science" psychologists practice, why would anyone take you psychos seriously? |
