Monday, November 14, 2011 10:52:10 PM We went to DC recently. VERY few people spoke above a whisper while touring certain monuments. We went for Memorial Day weekend, so there were many Vets there--of course, mainly around the Korean & Vietnam memorials--and most people were very respectful. We took photos for a few Vets & their families & spoke to quite a few of them for a while. That meant a lot to us & we will never forget it. It boggles the mind that some folks would act as if they were at Disneyland! People who are behaving disrepectfully need to be confronted about it quickly & decisively. I guess this young man knows a thing or two about that. I thinks it's a good thing that SOMEBODY still does. |

Monday, November 14, 2011 9:32:01 AM Chunksaflynn - thank you. As well, I noticed the "Marine" in the description. I was stationed at Ft Meyer for 2 years and can give you the breakdown on the Old Guard. Still amazes me how many people come there to the Tomb of the Unknowns and practice jackassery. |

Sunday, November 13, 2011 8:33:53 PM It's not an officers uniform but the Dress Blue of the US Army Enlisted/NCO. The markings on the sleeves and shoulders would be different and if taking the time to research, one could easily see the difference. |

@ duffytoler - that's an officers uniform, not enlistedman. Officers don't stand guard duty so what's your point? |

Sunday, November 13, 2011 9:02:06 AM Oh, btw, that's a Soldier, not a Marine. The Tomb Guards are U.S. Army, not United States Marine Corps. |

Sunday, November 13, 2011 8:42:56 AM @chance31 I concure. @shandy Being a Tomb Guard sounds like a huge commitment from what you describe. |

Sunday, November 13, 2011 6:32:41 AM The people in the Tomb Guard are required not to swear, drink and a mess of other things, if they do, they loose the right to call themselves Tomb Guards (even for retired people) and if they are currently working there they get fired and relegated to some other unit. My friends that were stationed there said there are currently only around 300 peeps who are permitted to claim that they are Tomb Guards. I've also been told that new guards live in the building right behind where this was filmed, for somewhere around their first 6 months on the job (they really don't even have free-time then). |

Saturday, November 12, 2011 9:11:12 PM I'll bet the dumb asses making noise at the Tomb were arguing about whether the guard was in the Army or Marines.

Saturday, November 12, 2011 8:57:55 PM WRONG. Marines DO have pants with a yellow stripe! Here, want to see?
It's the"Evening Dress"uniform. |

Saturday, November 12, 2011 5:45:59 PM Whodat is correct, the 3rd Regiment of the Army guards The Tomb and Arlington Cemetery, they are known as 'The Old Guard' and it's a high honor for a soldier to be selected for the duty. Btw, The Tomb, and the rest of Arlington Cemetery has cameras watching the grounds 24/7, it would be very unwise to attempt something stupid there. |

It LOOKS like a Marine dress uniform, the only real difference is the color of the hat. HUGE differance. The red stripe on the trouser for the Marines {but only if it's a non-com or higher}. There is no white shirt & tie for the Marines, and they have red piping. And the insignias and rank and white belt .... Totally differant.
