Sunday, November 06, 2011 3:02:15 PM The laws on suing people who help you are counterproductive. They are a major deterrent to necessary assistance. In China, if someone is killed, they arrest whoever is closest. So people skedaddle. |

Saturday, November 05, 2011 9:34:14 AM I got hit by a motorcycle in China. The guy fell off, but then without hesitation got back on and drove off. It's pretty cutthroat out there, I wont lie. |

Saturday, November 05, 2011 6:52:56 AM Take UK Tort law for instance I have no legal obligation to help someone. If there is a toddler fallen over on the floor in a puddle and it is drowning. If I sit back ,watch and laugh my head off, legally nothing wrong with it. Yet if I tried to help but I'm a massive idiot and do something that's not reasonable boot the child in the ribs flipping it over for instance then yes you'd be responsible for the cracked ribs even though you saved the child's life. Conversely if I carefully pick the toddler up and say it had a bone deficiency you break its arm you wouldn't be liable because it was a reasonable way to help. When you hear about court cases etc and often think that's a dratting stupid decision from some judges it often isn't. The public never has the full story or all the facts and it gets simplified down to be a stupid decision. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 7:39:44 PM Big deal. There was this on women in America that had both arms cut of as well as her breasts by some psycho. She managed to escape and wondered naked down the high way for about 2 hours before anyone one the busy road cared to stop and help her. Also if this person in the video jumped trying to kill themselves why should anyone help her, why not grant her, her wish and let her die ? |

Friday, November 04, 2011 4:07:55 PM That's why in the USA there's policies where, even if you end up harming the person more while you are trying to save them, you can't be punished. We don't want people ignoring injured people out of fear of being prosecuted. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 4:06:34 PM LordJim, it's REALLY easy to say that if you're not in the situation. But consider if you're not well off [middle class or poor]. If helping the person might land you in jail or completely bankrupt and possibly destroy your life, it only makes sense for people to not want to help other people. China needs some serious policy changes. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 3:19:35 PM Knowing the laws in China, I'd have farking driven on too. No way I wanna pay for her medical care for being a samaritan. Their laws re this are dratting farked up, you just need to look up the story of the 2 year old child last month in China that had 2 vans run over her + over 25 people ignore her. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 1:11:47 PM trizz: Apparently it's to do with cases where people who have helped the injured person ends up getting blamed for the incident and go to jail. To add, if you hurt someone, in china, i heard you are responsible for financially supporting them back to health. it is cheaper to ignore the injured person or kill him/her. i think there was a vid here on iab, or maybe i jsut saw it on youtube about a kid who was run over by a car in the middlen of a market road and other cars just ignored the kid and drove over him. this went on until someone dragged the child out of the road and then left him leaned up to a cardboard box |

Friday, November 04, 2011 12:08:38 PM "The woman in this video was calling for help and giving location to the police. This kind of indifference is not uncommon in China. It's really sad." Well, apparently people who DO help in these situations have been harassed by the CCP. I seem to recall reading about that in the story about the little girl. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 11:53:14 AM Pheeshy5 If someone said to me that they had seen a badly injured child but were too concerned about possible legal implications to help and so let her die, I wouldn't see that as a 'reason'. Except as a reason to see them as despicable human beings. It's a symptom of a serious and progressive sickness. burbclaver, Well put. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 11:52:33 AM "nobody helped the child that got hit by the car and no one helped" I guess it's also the same reason for no child left behind, which is why you got through school... |

Friday, November 04, 2011 11:39:13 AM @slothofdoom - You'd let her lie dying of internal injuries, because she had mental problems that caused her to attempt to take her own life?? I hope one day your attitude will come back to mind when your nurse is beating the f*** out of you for wetting your geriatric bed. Karma, Dude! |

Friday, November 04, 2011 11:28:03 AM If you are going to suicide, at least be polite about it. Absolutely. And if I ever reach the point where I conclude that it is time to go I have a number of contingencies in mind which will minimize inconvenience and trauma for others. But there are those who are driven to desperation which precludes forward planning or whose balance of mind is disturbed. No need to get snotty about it. But China does seem to be a bit special in this regard. I have a mate in HK who came of his motorcycle a few years ago and was quite badly hurt. He described spending almost two hours by the side of the road as people slowed down, pointed, took pictures but did not help until an Aussie pulled over. That is a flaw in any civilized society. |
