Friday, November 04, 2011 5:37:04 PM This bill has made a mockery of efforts to prevent bullying by giving bullies a big fat loophole in which to do their deeds. As long as they can find a loophole in some religious claim. Yes indeed, Gretchen Whitmer rocks! Time to bully all the Rs in the Michigan Senate! |

Friday, November 04, 2011 1:33:11 PM An anti-bullying bill shouldn't exist at all! There are somethings that should not be regulated. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 11:20:48 AM There's already laws covering physical violence. An anti-bullying law based around speech will be too open to loopholes. And a law based on bullying from children is only treating a symptom of a greater problem. Children will simply mimic the behaviors of adults. If society as a whole accepts LGBT people, their children will follow suit. It's not likely to be something we can change within a generation; look at the civil rights movements for women and black americans. There are laws for harassment in place already. A law like this does not simply remove all instances of the problem it intends to fix, but rather molds it over time. If this senate (and judging by the other youtube videos in response to this bill, republicans) wish to fix this problem, LGBTs need equal rights in all parts of society. Then we, as a society, wait generations for it (being gay/black/a woman) to become mostly acceptable. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 6:50:10 AM I've been bullied practically my entire school life. I highly doubt that religion and/or moral reasons was why I got bullied. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 6:07:42 AM Cajun: Please tell that to the postmaster general that keeps allowing junk mail to be sent in my mailbox. Not to mention the paparazzi that pester celebs, or the way anonymous plans to pester judge Adams. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 6:00:31 AM @CrakrJak Could be the caption is taking the bill out of context, nonetheless 1st Amendment does not give you the right to pester others. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 5:18:31 AM im a girl... i was bullied... and by bullied i mean all through gradeschool and middle school while i would sit at my desk, the girls would grab me by my hair and slam my head into the desk while one held me down and the other punched me. they would meet met after school and corner me in just so they could "jump me" on a regular basis. their reason for doing all of this? because my clothes werent as nice as theirs and that my hair wasnt as nice as theirs. all they did was call me ugly all through school. i weighed next to nothing and didnt think i would have to defend myself in school because i didnt have nice clothes. bullying is a disgusting display of human expression. the pecking order? really? what the hell happened to "why cant we just all get along and work together?" |

Friday, November 04, 2011 5:11:24 AM I agree that bullying might be good for a person, but there is a difference between getting bullied by one guy, and getting bullied by the entire class. When the entire class bullies someone, something needs to be done. And on top of that, they need to invest more in psychological therapy for children and getting people to admit their problems. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 4:23:55 AM We all had to deal with bullying, it taught us to stand up for ourselves, or we became rag-dolls. Unfortunately, the lock-down on bullying, the no-child-left-behind policy, and political correctness has left us with a nation of wet-noodle children. I fear for our future. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 4:20:11 AM The whole purpose of bullying is to establish the pecking order. People who are against an anti-bullying law have some kind of stake in that pecking order, i.e., they are somewhere near the top, and they like it that way. That's why religious people want to have their exception - they want their religion to stay at, or get to, the top of the pecking order. It's that simple. The rest is smoke and mirrors. |

Friday, November 04, 2011 4:11:13 AM I think bullying should be allowed. It builds character and instigates a 'playground natural selection'. I was bullied and to be honest, I now respect that kid that bullied me as it taught me the way of the playground, what to wear, how to behave and how to stand up for myself. Bullying teaches you perhaps the most useful thing school ever contributes to your life - independence. Because without it, you'll just plod along and not get anywhere, with it, it provides a challenge and while some people rise to is, others will fall. And to all those people saying that bullying causes distress and suicides (which it does), better ten year old kids tell you you have a problem so you can sort it out early and/ or grow to accept it, than to be told by the girl you love at 25 and be heartbroken. "Thomas Wayne: And why do we fall, Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves up" |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 11:10:40 PM You will never stop bullying with any law, did handgun laws stop armed robberies ?, No they haven't. All this does is criminalize someone's speech, and that will not pass muster against our 1st amendment rights. |
