Oh Squiggly Line in My Eye Fluid

I see you there,

Lurking on the periphery of my vision

But when I try to look at you,

You scurry away!

Are you shy, squiggly line?

Why only when I ignore you

Do you return to the center of my eye?

Oh, squiggly line,

It's all right

You are forgiven!

Vitrious floaters, harmless. The stuff is floating in the liquid in your eyeball.
It is nothing to worry about, enjoy life!

THOSE ARE CALLED SQUIGGLY LINES. I HEARD A POEM ABOUT THEM, RECITED BY STEWIE GRIFFIN FROM FAMILY GUY.

@Corpsecrank - one of my favourite things in the world is when people are so sure they are right and then spout some incorrect rubbish.

You can see them best if you look into something with a very low backlight... like a telescope pointed at a dim light or something, helps them come into focus. I have a lot of those guys, they don't just drift, they swirl around when I move my eye.

I was always told it was the remnants of an artery, that existed when you were still a fetus, that fed blood to your still-forming eye. Once your eye was formed, it dried up and broke apart, forever to float in your eye.

THE INSIDE OF YOUR EYE IS FILLED WITH A LIQUID, SOMETIMES VERY MICROSCOPIC PARTICLES PASS THROUGH THE LIGHT COMING INTO YOUR EYE CREATE A SHADOW ON A BACK OF YOUR EYE, YOU THEN SEE THIS TRANSLATED AS SOMETHING 'FLOATING' IN YOUR EYE SIGHT.

FLOATERS ARE NOT HARMFUL, HOWEVER AN INCREASE IN FLOATERS MAY BE A SIGN OF A DETACHED RETINA OR WORSE. IF YOU HAVE NOTICED THAT MORE AND MORE DEBRIS/FLOATERS ARE INVADED YOUR VISION CONTACT YOUR OPTOMETRIST

i have an ass load of those and its to the point that i researched it and learned they're pretty much shadows of the thin layer of stuff in the back of your eye that breaks free.

@ Corpsecrank:

another explanation is detached retina that becomes visible as those squiggly lines.

Seriously? No one really knows what this is? These are actually fine pieces of dust and debris on the surface of your eye directly in front of the pupil. As light enters the eye you see those dust particles the same as dirt on your windshield only much larger due to the distance between the surface of your eye being so close. I think the surface of your eye is as close to you as an object can be lol.

I always assumed it was little bits of fluff or something similar on the surface of the cornea.
They always seem to gently 'slide' downwards as if pulled by gravity on a surface that has friction.
But some people are saying it is actually inside the eye itself?
They seem to be affected by blinking for me, so I'm not sure they're inside the eye itself.
