Friday, November 04, 2011 3:08:12 PM The ironic thing is that although this is arguably legal, if it were a dog instead of a child it would be animal abuse no questions asked... |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 3:49:39 PM Sadly, this abuse occurred in 2004, and so is beyond the statute of limitations for prosecuting this man. And, he's a Family Law judge. In other words...he handles child abuse cases. There is a vast difference between a spanking and a beating. This was a beating. |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 2:29:58 PM @SpurblyBurbl/Smugfaceahole I can just say **** the "scientific* reading and say "kick this guys head in. It's people like you that are the real problem. "Awww that poor judge having to beat his daughter". |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 1:57:25 PM this is drating disgusting. at one point the mother tells her to take it like a woman. if she was a drating woman, they'd be drating well prosecuted for assault. I am a mother. I have used smacking on my child but this is something entirely different. |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 12:52:39 PM splurbyburbl: The question isn't IF it's legal but WHY it is. The scientific, objective and totally clear mind has already dismissed corporal punishment as an effective method of child-rearing. Source |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 12:43:47 PM According to the law this is simple not abuse. You may think it is abuse but it is not. That, my friends is the only fact that is relevant. You are wrong on two counts. First, you really think that the only relevant thing is its legality? Really? So morals and ethics are irrelevant? I find this kind of barbarity very relevant and I think other rational people do as well. Second, in Texas parent are allowed to spank their children if the spanking is reasonable. Causing injury to a child is a felony. In Texas, injury is defined as physical pain, which is evident in this video. It would be considered unreasonable if there is bruising or if the parent uses a dangerous object, such as a belt. We cannot tell from the video if there is bruising, but we can see the use of the belt and that makes it unreasonable. This video would be enough evidence, in Texas, to start an investigation. Whether it is illegal or not would be up to the courts, not you. |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 9:06:22 AM ANYONE including my childs father were to beat my baby with a belt like that I would beat their #ss! There was absolutley no reason for him to fly off the handle like that. F*cking ridiculous! SPANKING is one thing....THIS is crossing that line |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 6:33:45 AM While I think spankings are (or rather, can be) nessasary, I don't think that this was the correct time to use it - although I'm not a parent. I have been spanked a few times - I can't remember for what any longer, but it wasn't anything as stupid as using the internet when I wasn't supposed to. What isn't mentioned in this video is the girl has cerebral palsy, and she didn't just 'use the internet' - she was downloading anime, japanese music, and games. |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 5:29:12 AM Also, all of you have at one point (most likely) had something happen, or did something inappropriate and it was blown out of proportion by someone else. Because of that you were probably judge way too quickly and harshly when really your intentions were totally different than what it seemed. I bet you wished you had someone with a clear head to defend the process by which you were judged. And if it has never happened to you, then maybe one day it will and maybe it will be huge. In that event, you will also want someone with a logical way of thinking to step back, look at the facts, not rush to judgment based on circumstantial evidence, and defend you. Personally I have been subject of life altering accusations and I beat it through the same method. I wish that I had a person willing to do that for me at the time, but I was on my own.

Thursday, November 03, 2011 5:22:00 AM I am glad that I had the opportunity to see this and also see the comments. I can tell who has the ability to take a situation and pick it apart in a scientific manner, with an objective and totally clear mind. Sad to say very few of you are able to do this. According to the law this is simple not abuse. You may think it is abuse but it is not. That, my friends is the only fact that is relevant. That is not to say that this should not be a catalyst to change the law. This is also not to say that I would want to do these things to my own children. But, as far as this being abuse... it is not (in the legal sense). Therefore, it is because of most of you... the LYNCH MOB that this person will not be treated fairly. Already, due to emotional and illogical thinking, his career is probably reuined. This is due to people like you. |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 12:54:42 AM I think a scary number of people are so P.C. that they cant differentiate betweem a spanking and a beating! (Hint: IT DEPENDS ON THE SEVERITY) I got many spankings but I was NEVER abused by my parents. without a firm hand I probably would have run riot. It also made me well aware of what the repercussions for my actions would be. Damn often I actually opted for the smack in preference to other forms of punishment- at least it was over and done with.(besides,if i wanted to I could have smashed my old man since I was twelve- I respected him enough not to). THATS the difference between a beating and a smack on the backside. That judge crossed the line bigtime. |

Thursday, November 03, 2011 12:25:55 AM It's positively ridiculous that this is news. This child disobeyed her parents, and she got spanked. End of story. I see no "abuse" here or anything even resembling it. |

Wednesday, November 02, 2011 11:53:05 PM so she got a beating by both parents because she used the internet, when her dad said not to? Sounds like the parents were stuck on the "Kid was disobedient" part where as many would see it as "it is just the internet, not drugs, not crime." part this seemed excessive, but I'm not sure if beating you kid as a disciplinary action is bad or not yet. |

Wednesday, November 02, 2011 8:20:53 PM All that did was bring back memories, that is no more severe than what me and my brother used to get when we got in trouble, I always remember trying to block the belt with my hands but that only made it worse. If he punched here in the face that is one this but this meh, blown way out of proportion, getting hit with a belt may hurt and leave some redness but it won't do any real damage. It sounds loud but its nothing like a whip that can tear through skin it"s surface area is much greater. |

Wednesday, November 02, 2011 8:11:57 PM seems fairly normal to me. i used to get that for everything from bedwetting as a toddler to having a messy room as an adolescent. for my generation it was just how kids were raised.

Wednesday, November 02, 2011 5:52:10 PM I missed that her mom states she is 16 and should "take it like a grown woman." Holy poo, this went from upsetting me to making me drating IRATE! I find it strange that is the part that some people are so offended by. It's no different to "take it like a man" comments, which are said to male people of that age (and younger). 16 is not 6. 16 year olds are not children. They're adolescents, arguably adults. It's an irrelevant side issue, probably stemming from sexism. The main issue is whether or not it's appropriate to punish someone in that way. I think it isn't. I think it's assault and an abuse of a position of authority. Given that he's a judge, that's a particular cause for concern. Judges need to have good judgement and use a position of authority wisely. I question whether he can do that. |
